Astrology is often considered as an occult science, and even though lot of attention is given to Astrologers & their predictions, few actually stand true to fact. This, combined with the philosophical nature of the predictions - and sometimes the subject itself - creates confusion in everyone’s mind. It makes them doubt and sometimes reach a conclusion that Astrology simply doesn’t work. At the same time, astrologers justify various reasons why a particular prediction did not work, using some cosmic, philosophical grounds – only adding further mystery to the occult status of the subject. It should not come as a surprise that the educated rarely venture into astrology.
Little piece of History
History shows us that one can only see farther by standing on the shoulders of his predecessor who was a giant himself in his time. Nevertheless, one must have the depth and the courage to clarify what his predecessors could not view and explain it in simple but scientific terms. Challenging the established not only requires this depth and courage but also needs proof of any newfound theories. The science of “Physics” is a notable example here. It has progressed extremely well in past 150 years on account of the eager and curious inventors who could take up the job to add value by standing on shoulders of their predecessors. In astrology, however, this scientific approach is an uncommon quality. Very few researchers in astrological studies actually challenge the established and are seldom taken seriously. This, combined with the general mysticism developed by some “pretenders” has impacted the progress of the science adversely. One can observe that while astronomy has literally skyrockets in past 400 years – astrology still lags behind, unable to open doors to scientific advancements.
To the trading room – “just what is Market Astrology?”
Financial markets are volatile at best and seemingly unpredictable to the least. Getting the desired predictability by applying the standard ways of any method to the market is not just difficult; it can also get complicated to a point where the very usability of the method is surrendered. For instance, studies show that by applying existing methods of Price based Analysis to the market, one cannot outperform the “Buy and hold index” over a long run. The advocates of such methods argue that the subjects involve creative abilities using which one can successfully predict the markets. Be that as it may, any method that uses strict demand-supply dynamics for forecasting future prices is essentially a study of past performance and considers only demand-supply data as a valid measure of market profile. This is not to argue that they “don’t work”, it’s just to highlight that they are not truly predictive by their very nature and do not qualify as applied science.
This is where Astrology differs from the other existing price based methods. It uses astronomical data of utmost accuracy and price movements are only data points to determine what has happened in past to determine the reoccurrence of movements or their similarities. On this note, Market Astrology can be simply defined as
“A study of market movements to find repetition or vibration of price movements upon reoccurrence of an astronomical phenomenon”
There are various ways to follow astrological principles to forecast market movements. For example, you can simply consider 21st March equinox as a reference date to find market traend and you will get the general direction of the market. You can also try complex combinations of planetary aspects based on Fractal Geometry and get the minor price and time points. Astrological studies can be extremely simple or complex, depending on the desired result of such research.
Who should study Market Astrology
It is not necessary to study something only if one believes it. Most people, like the founders of “marketastrology.net” did not “believe” that astrology works and had to work the other way round, first studying the principals and later on believing that they work after checking their effect. If one has an open mind to new ideas and is willing to do significant hard work, this is one’s subject. Market Astrology, like any form of astrology, requires strong understanding of the astronomical principals and some basic knowledge of mathematics.
One can only learn so much about something in one lifetime, astrology is no exception. It is a learning curve and it takes time to get from one level of understanding to another, so the whole endeavor of market astrology is to be done only by those with patience.
Trails to follow
There isn’t a single answer to this question either. There are many beliefs in pursing astrological studies related to market. To start, one must understand the basic principles of astronomy and astrology very clearly (note that the two are different) e.g. the ecliptic and the zodiac, heliocentricism & geocentricism, general information about planets and their orbits. While these and related concepts are considered as the foundation before one commits to any original research, it is also advised to avoid reading of any philosophical meanings of the planets, the signs or any other astronomical concept. Opinions, ones formed, are held so obstinately that it becomes difficult to wipe the unnecessary ideas later on. Rememeber that the shapes of animals and mythical gods' names given to stars are merely ways to remember the zodiac (especially when there were no computers to store so much of data) - True Astrology is as precise as a space shuttle launch sequence, do not let the philosophical advocation of astrology confuse you with imaginary grounds to a very realistic & scentific subject.
As mentioned before, we must follow trails of predecessors & must completely understand about their work on the subject. When it comes to the established names in market astrology, two names stand out – Sir W.D. Gann & Sir George Bayer. Forecasts from both are documented and are found to be extremely accurate, at times surprising events have occurred in favor of their forecasts. It is advised to learn all one can about these two masters preferably by reading from their own writings. This will help to avoid reinventing the wheel and guide towards a fundamentally strong path. These people believed what they taught and used the methods in their trading and forecasting activity, they were market traders and even a novice trader can start reading their work and understand what is said with little effort.
Then again, experience is the best teacher –continuous experiment with astronomical data will help to progress in market astrology. It is also advised to learn the brief history of astrology as a science and read writings of the ancient masters like Aristotle, Plato & Plutarch. After all what Bible says applies to market as well as market astrology:
“what has been is what shall be, what has been done is what will be done and there is nothing new under the Sun”.
