if the promoters have pleged 16 % equity........whats the point in buyback ...that too @ a premium 2 the current mkt price...
when the shares r pleged....it is obvious that the promoters need cash....!!

Buy back with company's funds. So support the price. (atleast to some extent) and pledge promoters' stake to get higher amount of loan.

for instance if u r holding a position in a stock say 'x' whose current lot size is 1000.....if it is revised to 10000...u will have 2 options @ feb xpiry....fork out additional margin & carry or close out....
due to severe price erosion ,many small time players entered f&o due to attractive margin verses price....now not every trader will b in a situation 2 pay additional hefty margin....so he closes....
the impact ,.bears will b squeezed in heavily short counters & bulls will b kicked in bull counters.
