Use of MACD with ADX is useful. Use this along with CCI. These three together are useful.

In addition to this plot moving average, bollinger bands. This should be sufficient for decision making.

In addition to this use MFI for final confirmation.

Make a matrix (table) on your observation. This will give you good insight into your observation.

The best way to learn is print out yearly charts. Hide the chart by paper and move it towards right slowly. Pause and analyze without looking at future data. Check whether your predictions are coming true.

Please ensure you dont glance the print out otherwise your conclusion will be baised. May be ask your friend to print out and cover it with a paper.

Regards

deepanshah13:

MACD = Moving average convergence divergence
ADX = Average directional index
CCI = Commodity channel index
MFI = Money flow index

Moving averages and Bollinger bands are the same.

If you want to learn more about all of them or moreover test your strategies in an Excel file, you can find their description e.g. here: http://www.alltrading.info/technical-analysis/44-indicators-technical-analysis

Btw. Schaff trend cycle, Swing index or Kama (Kaufman adaptive moving average are even better indicators).

Jarmush, there is quite a big difference between the BB's and the MA's. MA's are just that-- a moving average, or the mean of the closes on x candles.
The BB's measure a standard deviation from the mean of x candles of the close. The default bands are an SD of 2, or otherwise called sigma 2. With a normal SD, 95% of all the data is contained within the sigma 2 bands. Considering BB's are dynamic by nature of the markets, that percentage would be a little less. This means on the surface, once the candle hits the -2 or +2, it yields a high-confidence trade going the opposite direction. (Key phrase-- "on the surface".)

You didn't get me. I didn't mean that Moving averages are the same as Bollinger bands are but that their names "Moving averages" mean "Moving averages" and "Bollinger Bands" mean "Bollinger bands".
In other words they were not abbreviated in the previous post from bmpangam.

deepanshah13's question was: "what are the full names of the indicators mentioned here?"
