BB(20,2) of nifty futures on time frame 4/6 min are presented below.

Case1.Choppy Market:
Go long when Red+Green candles pierce the bottom band
(Keep case.2 in mind also always) and wait for 15minutes for confirmation
after taking position, otherwise come out with stoploss.
Go short when Green+Red candles pierce the top band
(Keep case.2 in mind also always) and wait for 15minutes for confirmation
after taking position , otherwise come out with stoploss.

In case of Verital rise or Vertical fall ,the above rules may not work & have close
look at the central line and outer boundaries always.Perhaps this may qualify for
case.2. A close of candle outside the bands need not necessarily mean
termination of trend but it be continuation as well. Have patience to keep a watch
on those situations.

Case2.Trending Market:

If the candles are concentrated in Top band ONLY go Long.
If the candles are concentrated in Bottom band ONLY go Short.
Rules of Case.1 do not work here and keep Mid line as stoploss.
The Proximity of candles with respect to Outer boundaries indicates the
Strength. More strength means more closer to Outer boundaries.

Avoid trading when the Bollinger Band is Narrow and Horizontal.Check with
Nifty-Spot chart occasionally.

How do you confirm columbus ji that it was short covering? Any inference which you can draw from the charts? Or you use different set of indicators to conclude that it was short covering that lead to the upmove.
Thanks and regards

Dear Sai,

Today (10/6/10) Europe opened rather badly and it was under pressure.
During the process lots of SHORTS were built up.But afterwards market
moved in one direction ,UP.Basically though there are no set indicators
to detect short covering ,personally I feel it is not a genuine bull rally we had today.

Bollinger bands are actually indicators as to the volatility of a particular security. As a result, for trading purposes, one would want to look at the activity of trading within the bands in conjunction with another tool, such as the Relative Strength Indicator, to properly undertake investment decisions.

Historically, when a price movement has been identified originating at one of the Bollinger limits, it will more likely than not continue at least to the opposite limit band.

Bollinger bands are in essence a graphic representation of the volatility that exists in the market for any particular stock. As such, they allow the investor the possibility to identify periods where opportunities for the undertaking of successful positions can arise.

When used in conjunction with other indicators, the knowledge and use of Bollinger bands can greatly improve any individuals trading performance.
Bollinger Bands and Trading

Bollinger bands is without a doubt one of the greatest tools ever created to aid the astute trader with his entries and exits.

The reaction of an upper or lower band to approaching price provides the active trader with a tale tale sign of what will likely take place over the next few bars or more.

This reaction provides valuable insight into whether or not this will be just a few bars or quite a few bars.

Likewise the upper bands "personality" during this time is also very telling.

Bollinger Bands is rather under-rated indicator.

Trading with BB is rather simple. If if hits the top band then SHORT it.
If it hits the bottom band BUY it.If it grazes the bands go in the same
direction.

EMA crossover method has been used extensively for Long Term
view. But it can be used in conjunction with Bollinger Bands for
day trading also.
