Valentine's Day- The Real Story

In spite of what you have been told by everyone, the truth is that Valentine's Day originated hundreds of years ago, in India, and to top it all, in the state of Gujarat !!!

It is a well known fact that Gujarati men, specially the Patels, continually mistreat and disrespect their wives (Patelianis). One fine day, it happened to be the 14th day of February, one brave Patelani, having had enough "torture" by her husband, finally chose to rebel by beating him up with a Velan (rolling pin to make chapattis). Yes....the same Velan which she used daily, to make chapattis for him.... only this time, instead of the dough, it was the husband who was flattened.

This was a momentous occasion for all Gujarati women and a revolt soon spread, like wild fire, with thousands of housewives beating up their husbands with the Velan. There was an outburst of moaning "chapatti-ed" husbands all over Anand and Amdavad.

The Patel men-folk quickly learnt their lesson and started to behave more respectfully with their Patelanis.

Thereafter, on 14th February every year, the womenfolk of Gujarat would beat up their husbands, to commemorate that eventful day - the wives having the satisfaction of beating up their husbands with the Velan and the men having the supreme joy of submitting to the will of the women they loved.

Soon the Gujju men realised that in order to avoid this ordeal they need to present gifts to their wives....they brought flowers and sweets. This is how the tradition - Velan time - began.

As Gujarat fell under the influence of Western culture, the ritual soon spread to Britain and many other Western countries, specifically, the catch words 'Velan time!!! In course of time, their foreign tongues, this got anglicized to 'Velantime' and then to 'Valentine'.

And thereafter, 14th of February, came to be known as Valentine's Day and now you know the true story of Valentine's Day.

I am giving my views here and sorry if someone is agitated that why i m oppose to making Valentine (Well In time) of teen age
Yes this is a Well for the teenage boy and girls who only think valentine is meeting at lonely place hugging and kissing giving gifts Sorry cant write more as that wont b allowed

I don't say everyone would agree to my opinions but everyone can give their opinion.

Valentine day is an occasion introduced by the westerns and unfortunately adopted by us too. If you go into its history, it clearly shows we should not celebrate it. But since this concept of portraying ourselves modern and updated with 21st century has deteriorated our minds, we fail to realize the difference between right and wrong. First of all, if Valentines only means to show one's love towards someone, then the most deserving is our family. How can a person we have just recently met or known can be so important for us than those who have brought us in this world, nurtured us and brought us to the point where we stand now. Thanks to God for bestowing us with the wonderful angels in form of human called mom and dad. Its not only about expressing our love one day and being negligent during the others. But we should be loving to them throughout our life.

While Mutalik was against the Pub visits by the females, Renuka wants Pub-Bharo to commence.

Politicians make a mess of eberything. Who has given any authority to any one to be a moral controller of the Indian Public?

Especially, anyone connected with Politics.... when they themselves have to search for their own moral levels, if any

Today's paper quote Mutalik having said that he has no objection for "love" but objects for it's celebration on one day.... says against our culture.

Naturally..... He does NOT seem to have heard of "Guru Pornima" for celebrating and thanking the Guru on a single day, for what all he has done during the year.

But then.... why am I writing all this. We all know our politicians well. Anything written or said does not make any difference to them.

We only become happy.... after writing and letting the steam out

All right , now let me pen down my views.
"meeting at lonely place hugging and kissing" Well , ask yourself , does everyone do that If one Loves his parents as you said in your posts , does it mean we have to KISS them in the whole mkt everytime we go out? Love can be expressed without Kissing ,
Hugging --- Well whats wrong in that as long as you are not doing it cheaply , a simple hug like we give out to friends , do we call it cheap?? Well i differ on this point , when 2 Boys hug people dont have problem but when a Girl and Boy give a gentle hug --- Indian mentalilty thats it.
I Agree that "Kissing" and all that Tamasha in Public places is really bitchy and deserves disagreement by elders.

Valentines day is Goor or Bad??? Excellent topic to Debate This GAP in thinking between you and me is because of a FULL NEW GENERATION which i belong to. I fully agree and its not your fault. When in some homes , ladies cant wear Jeans , talking of Valentines as Bad looks very simple.

Regarding Gifts , when i give Gifts to my Dad and Mom on mothers and Fathers day , as long as i continue it without forgetting them i dont seem to have a problem gifting my Special Friend a small Gift.

Mom and Dad are wondeful gifts no doubt and without them life is impossible but a stage comes when even Your own family with Kids is important. You NEED understanding and educated parents to feel this phenomenon. Have seen many Aunties come to my place and say-- Our son doesnt take care of us that much as they used to b4 marriage.. Now isnt that Normal??????
Remember not every1 goes to "PARKS" on V.D so ............

For once, I strongly differ with your views

And individuals differ.... that's why the subject of psychology exists.

I look at this all in the following way :

1. We use the western clothing style. We communicate in western languages. Currently, even the auto-rishaw-walla and postmen take pride in sending their kids to English medium schools. In Hi-fi restaurants, we follow the western eating style.

2. If given chance, we ourselves want to do anything and everything, that is being objected for guarding our culture. But when it comes to allowing someone else to follow that, we object. Not fair.

3. On one side, Mutalik and his men were harassing the female visitors of Pubs in Mangalore. It is understood that none of these men had any girl friend, who would accompany them to Pub. And the reason is too obvious. Most of these men are neither well educated, nor earn good respectable salaries. In fact they do not have any regular work, but to support the politicians for such and similar acts.

4. When one party's people oppose, the other party's people support. It is only a political game. None of these people are actually serious in any of their acts.

5. But on the other side, the Delhi High court has ruled that newly weds can kiss in public places. Most of the people who object this are without girl friends, who could help posing as a wife These people, while acting as Moral controllers, themselves enjoy porn films in private..... it is obvious and needs no proof because it is a human nature. Or else, the person shall take "Sanyas" and go to Himalayas.

This all is my opinion, and others definately have a right to differ. But I shall ignore all comments and shall stay away from replying them.

Enjoy the life. Time once spent is NOT available for spending again. So spend it with total enjoyment and satisfaction. Avoid un-necessary bitterness... like Mutalik did. He has his opinion, and others may differ.... which he does not want to understand.
