'112' can be dialled from both mobile phones and landlines. The service will also be made accessible to those SIMs or landlines whose outgoing call facility has been barred or temporarily suspended. Users will also be able to make communication through SMS and the responding system will detect location of the caller and share it with the nearest help center. The service will be operated in call center-like facility and representatives will be able to provide support in Hindi, English, and other local languages.

Hope this will also work with out of station SIMs, e.g. my phone is registered in Gujarat and I face an emergency, say, in Bengal; then I should be able to access the emergency simply by dialling 112, and not have to prefix it with 0 or the STD code.

Hope this will also work with out of station SIMs, e.g. my phone is registered in Gujarat and I face an emergency, say, in Bengal; then I should be able to access the emergency simply by dialling 112, and not have to prefix it with 0 or the STD code.

TP you no need sim to call such emergency numbers, even it works if keypad lock is on.

Just try with 911 (its US number). Cut it in a second, else some one from US will take your call. My point is such emergency number has no boundries, no sims, no locks.
