Absolute agree with that. And humans of all kinds today and in the past used religion as a pretext to kill and start war to other people in the name of any stupid kind of religion. That is what I not can understand.

Primary split between atheists and others is actually not about whether there is god or not or should we allow people to do puja or not.

It's about commitment to truth and being humble enough to tell 'I don't know' when confronting unknown territory and being open to learn. It's about the 'process' through which we accept something as valid knowledge/truth. It's about how we separate bullshit/superstition/emotional-panic-based-insanity vs what's there in reality. It's about how to deal with contradictions and new evidences. It's about why certain process is valid while other processes to obtain knowledge and truth are false.

Once people settle for which process is right, all the results and decisions automatically follow. Some choose a certain process of reasoning which they are fed by society/elders. Some choose certain process of reasoning which is systematic without absurd contradictions, scientific process is one such process.

Some people with scientific attitude can see why human beings seek shelter in higher power when in trouble to derive their psychological strength. For them God/Puja all are real like a ventriloquist doll is real and has a life when audience believe the doll has life and even manage to enjoy the show. In subjective reality of audience the doll has a life and character. In objective reality its a nice convincing illusion having same effect of a doll with life!

People who see subjectively life in ventriloquist doll but misses the objective reality = believers.
People who see objective reality and misses the life like *real* effect of illusion = annoying materialist atheists.
People who can see both and don't forget the doll is dead but it's okay to enjoy the show as long as they don't get confused about objective/subjective reality = awesome people

As a head of ISRO we expect the chairman to be in third category and its disappointing if he is actually on first category as it's defeating all his scientific stance!
