This is know as News Manipulation.

S&P to downgrade India's Credit Rating was known to market before hand (we came to know it later on) and so the rally was initiated by smart alex's, after giving the false rally hope they transferred the stock at higher levels to gullible traders and then they knocked down the market.

And in-turn earning on both sides.
