EOD Download/ Convert from NSE and BSE

Dear Pankaj,

First of all I would like to thank you for such a good utility which helped me download years of historical data for my analysis. Without the Downloader & Converter, it won't have been possible at all.

However, for futures data, the s/w at present is not able to generate continuos contracts due to contaract naming issues. I have used an excel macro to modify the FnO bhavcopy and attaching herewith alongwith the output file for your consideration. It might be helpful if the same is incorporated in the new version.

Best Regards,

Hi Asish

I wasn't knowing that is is really useful to you also.
Futures data conversion was based on Pasha's suggestion. Now Rajaneesh had given one idea to call Far,Near and nex for each contract. Almost similar to your nomenclature of 1,2,3 appended as part of ticker symbol.

I will be trying to change it as per requirement which means consistent naming requirement.

Hi Ajit

I came to this forum to seek knowledge in the field which was hitherto unknown to me. I found a community full of extraordinary personalities who surpass any standards in their will to share what they have. I did not find such openness and caring attitude elaewhere that too in the context of stock market. There are many hwo have contributed generously and many more are willing to devote their time and energy for the benefit of members whom they may not even meet in person.

Mine is just a small contribution and to a large extent inspired by Satya's wonderful Data Extractor.

So I am just like you and other members. Do not embarras me by telling all that which is hallmark of this forum.

Hi Pankaj,
Thanks for this excellent utility.I used to use satya's data extractor which i think is great for nse data's and i was not able to download bse data with that.now i can download both bse and nse with your downloader. Also i have a problem with your data.when i import the downloaded data from the company wise form ,my fchart accepts it and shows on the chart but when i import datewise (which is much easier )data, it doesn't show in the chart even though the setting is the same. I keep scripname,OP,HIGH,LOW,CLOSE,VOLUME IN THAT ORDER FOR CONVERTING,DATE FORMAT IS SET AS MY SYSTEM DATE (FCHART ACCEPTS MOST OF THE DATE SETTINGS) SO where i might be making a mistake?
Also if i set the out put pattern as required by fibotrader in that ,it still not shown by the fibotrader chart even though it is imported by the quoteman. Is it because some difference in file type.I am a beginner in using these softwares and still looking to settle with a comfortable software. in fact i had dropped the idea of using the charting software because of data problem until i could import data with your utility. Hope u can guide me to make my importing of data a bit easier !
Thank you once again for this excellent utility

Hi Alleppian

I just tried to import datewise data in FCharts with default settings.output was in text format. It imported files without any more clicks on my part.
As a strategy to update stock records I would use stock wise data and update all records and then go for datewise updation.

For records not showing may be some setting factors in FCharts, but I can only guess unless I am able to replicate the problem. I suppose you have to tick Use Meta Header and Use Header Option. See if it is checked by default.

Same for fibotrader. I was able to update and see charts with default settings.

If you could be more specific and I can troubleshoot. Incase it is a bug in the programme I would be able to correct before next update.

Thanks for your feedback.

Hello,

I had tried out your EOD Download/ Convert from NSE and BSE and it is working well for NSE and BSE scrips except for certain errors i came across.

For NSE derivatives it is downloading Bhavcopies to a wrong folder. I am not sure it is the correct folder. The derivatives Bhavcopies are downloaded to the converted Data folder , Derivatives, which consists of stockwise converted output folder also.

I checked thrice by downloading derivatives bhavcopis. I thought the bhavcopies should get downloaded to downloads folder. I also could not see a seperate folder for NSE derivatives bhavcopies in the downloads folder. Only BSE, NSE and other folder was there.

The second problem i faced was i cannot select the ouput conversion details selections for NSE derivatives. The selection controls are stuck. In the conversion page input details of CSV bhavcopies are shown and in the output part of this page the various details like open, high etc are clearly shown.

But in the output sequence only few details are shown like date, open close etc. Some of the details like volume , scrip name etc cannot be transferred or activated because the selection and transfer buttons are not activated.

Another error is In BSE converted output the ACC has three output files.

A.C.C. Ltd from 17 th May 2006 to 30th May 2006,
A.C.C. 20th march 2006 to 29th Sep 2006,
ACC Ltd from 3rd Oct 2006 to 24th Nov 2006.

Another thing i would like to know is wheter the futures contracts are continously updated by the utility after expiry period of a contract.

Does the utility retain the downloaded bhavcopy files or does it delete it automatically after conversion. For me all the BSE bhavcopies were not in the downloads folder when i had opened the utility again.

The installation part was not comfortable since i had to make decisons regarding which files to keep and the use of retry and ignore button. So i am not sure the utility got installed properly during the first time.

I installed it for a second time but the same problems persists. This time BSE bhavcopies got downloaded to BSE Data conversion folders. Not sure what i am doing wrong. May be a new complete installation package with latest update files will solve these installation problems. My version of OS is Win XP latest.

The utility also keeps checking for internet connection. This checking routine may be dispensed with if possible.

A user has to select very carefully the the source and destination folders independently, as any mistake may delete the files. Is it possible to select and set the source and destination folders for all types of data seperately so that every time a user need not reset it. ie once i select NSE equities or other options, the corresponding source and destination files already set by me earlier are restored together.

Is it also possible to give a selection for the converted output by way of stockswise or datewise. Currently the utility converts the bhavcopies to both formats. Kindly advise.

Is it also possible to make a default output settings for ASCII and Metastock format for all three source of datas. ie for NSE cash and derivatives and BSE.
The ASCII ouput should be compatible with MS downloader for converting to MS Data. This seems to be one major problem area.

Or is it possible to incorpoarate a free MS conversion utility like Manzoors MS convertor using command lines in your utility so that MS downloader is not required.

Another suggestion i have is why to download NSE index details seperately. It will be better if it can be done simultaneously along with Bhavcopy download.

Currently in my opinion it is only your utiity that has features to download and convert data for NSE cash, Derivatives, BSE. I am currently using Satyas
Data extractor. But it can only be used for NSE cash and very easy to use and install.

But i am sure users would prefer to have a single utlity to download and convert data from BSE and NSE
