Experiments in Technical Analysis

Hi Murthy Garu,

This is with reference to your earlier post in this thread http://www.traderji.com/64112-post318.html

You suggested using ExRem to remove extra consecutive Buy and Sell signals. But sometimes this can give problems. Suppose we are trying to find the signals in Long Term-I (Jan 2005 to Sep 2006) and use ExRem. Let us say the first signal in this period is BUY. If there are any BUY signals before Jan 01, 2005 and no sell signals in between then the first BUY signal in our test period will be removed by ExRem. So this creates a problem in analysis. A particular case I can quote here. HIMACHALFUT which is in the list of tested stocks, gives BUY signals in 2004 on DEC 16 and 23 followed by another BUY signal on Feb 09, 2005 without any SELL signal in between. Therefore, ExRem retains the signal on Dec 16, 2004 and removes all the subsequent ones. Thus the signal on Feb 9, 2005 is removed but we want this signal for out study. How do you overcome this problem? That is the reason I resorted to manually removing the unwanted signals, though it is tedious.

This is the exact problem I had asked in another thread in this forum "AmiBroker Tips" in my two posts:
http://www.traderji.com/59127-post14.html and http://www.traderji.com/60549-post21.html

I posted these on 16-9-06 and 01-10-06. But so far no one has answred. If you can go through these questions and find the solution please post them.

Hi!

Attached is a word document that lists the steps that I have been using as a trading system.

It's given me a quite a few good trades. In the recent past, I have made some money on McDowell, IVRCL & HDFC

Please do have a look at it and see if it works for you.

This would have not been possible without the help & guidance of Ajay, Ashish, Cooltetra, Karthik, Kuldeep, Murthymsr, Rahul, Rvlv, Traderji, Saint, Sivakm, Srisara, Soumya and other fellow members. And of course, Robert from Fibotrader for his support, who has been absolutely great .

I sincerely thank each one of you for having taken the time to answer my queries. If I have not mentioned anybody's name with whom I have interacted, I apologise for the same.

Thanks & regards,
Amit

hi Amit
Wow ! you have have given a virtual goldmine.I think till now no one has given a *full trading*
system alongwith filters/templates .People on this forum have given strategies, position sizing,
money management, risk analysis at different places. You have given all at one place.(Saji Oomen also
has given something similar on Amibroker thread). You have provided a step by step system which is great.
You have been very generous to share your trading system.
Thanks a lot for the same.
I have a small question. In the "Confirm the Trend" part you have stated "Higher Pivot highs &
higher pivot lows is an uptrend. Higher highs & higher lows is a rally".Could you please explain the
difference between Higher Pivots and Higher Highs. If you could attach some charts explaining these concepts
I would be really greatful.
For quite sometime I was on lookout for whole trading system( I searched the internet also for that)
Your system has given a direction to develop my own trading system and I will use your system as a
guiding priciple.
Many thanks for the same

Hi! rpc,

Thanks for your encouraging words.

Maybe, you have not had a look at the thread by Saint, the url of which is:
http://www.traderji.com/trading-technicals/6072-teach-man-fish.html

What I had done is categorised the above thread in folders (a step by step manner). You can download the same from:
http://www.mediamax.com/gobatman/Hosted/Saint.zip

You will be asked for a password, the password is amit2006

Please do download the same. It will be really useful. All your queries will be answered. Please read the same slowly & carefully.

I'd also like to share one thing, from personal experience. When trading breakouts, please do not be in a hurry to buy the stock. When the stock gives a breakout, don't buy it the next morning. Check the price the next afternoon at around 3.00pm. If the price is > than the previous day's high, then only buy it. This is in addition to the trading rules that have been mentioned. Follow the trend lines and you should be fine.

One example that happened today. I hold shares of Bank of India. All the indicators were negative - the RSI, RAVI etc, except that the stock did not break the trend line. Today, the stock jumped approx 7.5%

If you have any further queries, please do let me know. I would be glad to help in any manner that I can.

Regards,
Amit

Hi Amit!

Thanks for sharing your method with us. Certainly I am going to learn a lot from it.

But I dont deserve to be bracketed into the category of esteemed members mentioned in your post. Hope you will take care of it in future.

Best Regards,
