Hi Riskyman,

Thought of posting a quick one. I was on the same page as you and agree that reservations should be made for deserving economically poor (based on relative merit) - but this should not be at the cost of denying the middle cast and economically relatively well off if they are deserving (based on merit)

Was having chai at a tapri today. And heard (an obviously Gujarati Patel) explaining to another... The grouse? Due to reservation policy, students scoring 45-50% marks get admission for medical or engineering colleges, where as students who have secured even 90% and above fail to get admission they well deserve as the seats are given to reserved categories. (not sure if the facts are true - but this is the perception in the Patel community in Gujarat)

My 2C.

Tomorrow Khannas, Shettys, Patils etc etc will come together and ask for reservations. Hope some good sense will prevail and such nuisance will be weeded out. Reservations if any should be given only to extremely poor people who are truly deserving and not based on any caste or creed.

Btw You should post these threads elsewhere as many do not like to see non trading related material here.

Completely agree with your views. It should be based on some merit and not "entirely" on caste/creed. I know a few people who belong to the very backward caste but are filthy rich and enjoying all the benefits of the silly reservation policy. This should be avoided is my point.

The Jungle rule , less or more - it stays. Civilised world, third world, undeveloped world, developed world, wherever - it stays.

Merit , so we call it - for those deserving middle cast and economically relatively well off. What about merit of poor people ? Less merit coz of no or limited access to resources ? right ? Yeah.

So why not replicate the govt school system and scale it up to higher education ? Just like if we can give free education to primary level or more, we can do the same for higher education as well.

The only reason we need to have reservation system is coz we have less seats than candidates. Why not create more seats ? and abolish the reservation system completely ?

If we feel education is our right and everyone shud get it , then why shud they get it based on caste ? Why anyone being not of obc shud keep them deprived ? Is health care not our right ? why not add reservation system to hospitals, and so we have right to get good food - so lets add up reservation in restaurants and food joints too. Why not ?

Mr PM and his team better take it in good faith, and not channelise it to another political move.

EU markets were trading in mild green. But just now taking a knock by more than 1%. Im trading the SPX as I type here. Seeing one big red bar. Will be interesting to see how DOW does .
