India has a great heritage and tradition. Esoteric arts is one among them, which includes astrologers, palmist, face readers, practitioners of dark arts (tantriks) etc. Unfortunately, there will be a 1 true gem from among 100+ or more among them.
Of these, there will be those who put up ads (100% avoid). Some will just speak something vague which people identify with. For e.g stating 'You desire financial security in life' (Is true for everybody) Or for a woman of marriagble age (not wearing a mangalsutra, kumkum or ring) 'You are now looking for a life partner to settle down' or anything ambigous 'You are dis-satisfied with your life and have questions and problems that you are looking for answers' - this applies to almost all. (And is that not the reason a person visits the fortune teller?) A business man can be told 'He has finance or business problems, or (or to be safer still may be told that you have or will have problems in future if not already having it now) Much of these predictions can be made by an astute observer - In a manner just like Sherlock Holmes would get a picture of a situation by judgement of clothes, look, facial expression, etc... There is a separate term for this called 'Cold reading' which can be improved further by asking a few leading questions as well. The people who visit fortune tellers already believe them, so telling what they want to hear can easily confirm faith, which unfortunately a lot of tricksters take advantage of people in distress or those just gullible.
Having said all this, there may be in some corner of a town or village a person who may be able to 100% foresee the future. I have had such an experience long back, and was told in detail the future incidents which would play out 5-7 years later in my life. What I was told seemed to be so out of synch with what I believed, that I laughed it off. But that is EXACTLY what happened. Too personal to mention here. But just sharing my experience. To sum up, do not believe easily, especially a person who may have money as a motive. (This guy I met did not) And just to add - he has no fixed address, and not tracable thereafter.
Just sharing....

but it is still a fact that the majority nowadays are con artists playing on the gullible
