The securities transaction tax (STT) on cash transactions has been maintained at 0.12 per cent. But STT on options trading has been increased to 0.05 per cent from 0.017 per cent earlier.

Transaction volumes in the market are nowhere near the transaction volume of late 2007 or early 2008 period. With the drop in volume, liquidity of the market has taken a serious hit. Liquidity exists in select pockets, but it is quite shallow at the broader market level.

STT brings in around Rs 5,000-7,000 crore annually to the government coffers.

Govt also considers stock market and traders as whipping boys...but we have markets to help us. Trade on family members account, use HUF , take 80 C benefit in all the accounts and reduce the tax liability...no point looking at the Govt for giving us anything....they wont give any concessions...increase in options STT proves that they want to be seen as anti rich and pro poor " garibon ke liye Sarkar" .

Ferget any help from Govt...we have our markets to reward us.

Atleast we still have LTCG. Logically most income should be taxed with reasonable tax rates. Instead we have exemptions and low tax base.

Now I think that I should start looking at Long Term Charts & Fundamental analysis for getting LTCG benefits and reduce Options Trading [what a jump in STT on Options]...
