Timepass sir,

I have cleared all history from chrome
HDD seems fine so far.
Will restart in Safe mode to check.

I logged in as admin and when I started chrome there was a pop up that said "Another application wants to use chrome extension. Allow or block".
I clicked block.

Below is screen shot of the processes running. Is it normal for chrome to be having so many exe running? You can see how each of those are hogging memory.

1. Check the difference in usage of RAM before and after closing Chrome. Though Chrome memory usage in above image seems normal.
2. In above image click on memory and set in descending order and see which process(es) is/are using max memory.

Here is what I tried. I went to chrome settings>>> Manage search Engines. There I deleted yahoo, Bing, AOL and kept google as default. Shut down the computer and let it rest for 10 minutes. And Bingo!! Works fine now.

Thank you all people for your help & support. Without your help, I would not even know it was a browser related problem. Thank you. :thumb::thumb:

Ya, i agree, but thats an emergency situation. In other IT support threads, one will get an answer after 7-8 hours, but here in 2 hours he got many replies. :thumb:

@Novice: the chrome uses so many processes, thats normal, but using 800 MB is not normal. Best thing is to open one tab only and also remove any useless plugins.
It seems you use Norton as well. That also slows down PC.

I am using 1gb ram laptop, i know the hardship faced by slow pc :D
If browsing only TJ, I use only Microsoft Internet Explorer (XP version). Its extremely light weight.
Other websites do not open in IE.

Now that the problem is solved, I think there was some conflict with yahoo, bing, aol search engines. I do not know if they are default or they come as add ons. Once I got rid of them, everything seems to work fine.

In all honesty, 2 GB RAM is not bad at all for the kind of usage I have. TJ forum, Kite, Youtube, Excel and some movies.
Yes I have symantec and it has kept my pc safe from many unwanted virus/trojans.

Windows runs much better on a Mac via parallels program. Whenever you think of buying your next laptop, do consider that.
Best part I have noticed is that it doesn't get slower with age unlike a windows PC, also less likely to be infected by viruses (most are designed against PCs) also battery back up and life is much better for Mac.

When I used to work to windows, I used avast antivirus as it is light. Now, I am using macbook. My friend is using macbook for the last 6 years and it is still working well.

Thank you. Yes some of those Anti-virus prorams can be heavy specially if the Auto update & Auto scan facility is on.

I have never so far used a mac book in my life. In fact have not used any Apple products so far. Maybe some day when I have the need to own a Mac.:thumb:

It's good you problem is solved.
Here is what i have to say about computers,i wanna chime in too hehe.

I don't advocate having a PC without antivirus, but once you get a bit proficient with using the internet you can live without having any antivirus.I have never actually had an antivirus and my passwords and stuff are fine,i never go and click a stupid ad or something i know what i am looking for and what are trusted sources to get the things i want.almost all browsers will blacklist bad malicious website and google search top results are mostly safe.

Just disable javascript and plugins when you are unsure about a result.

Number one reason latops slow down is because of background process like antiviruses that degrade the performance, and almost always when i had my pc infected which was rare, installing an antivirus on top of it could never quarantine the virus i had to reinstall windows, which means antiviruses are useless if you are a guy who know his way around, but you should always have antivirus if you are a computer novice.

As per laptop even a celeron dual core will give you the performance you need, with usage you want to do,you can easily get those for 20000-22000 rupees.i know few guys who have core i 7 3 ghz but they don't know a lick about computers all they do is check email, honestly people dont know they are being robbed when they buy a laptop these days.

When i talk about laptop trust me i know what i am talking,i have used a pc with windows 3.1 back when no one had computers in india, went from there to 95 and 98 and windows xp and 7,my first top end pc was with 64 mb ram haha,
so yeah even a pentium 3 can open tj and all simple stuff you wanna do,i have seen it.So celeron is best for you if you are buying new laptop.

Few tips ,that may help you ,or maybe you already know.

Try firefox its far better then chrome, always clear your history after every use

use system tools disk clean up to delete temporary files every once in a while.
Create new username every 2 years ,delete old username then pcs and laptops stay fine.

Do yourself a favor buy an external harddisk and back up your data every 3 months.

never attach a public pendrive to laptop most public pcs are infected

hope this helps somebody.

God Bless You
;-)
