Oh, today I went to the banks to fill up Form 15H for my mother - Central Bank and SBI. Very different experiences at both the places.
In CBI, I had to of course fill up the form in duplicate, and then on the backside write down the FD No, date and amount; then I got shifted between 2 different bank staff, each of whom would make some notation on the form and revert me to the other fellow. Finally it got done.
In SBI, I was carrying the form I had saved from the last year. The form was half-filled and I approached the staffer about guidance for submitting it. The staffer asked me to hold it and punched some keys in his computer. The printer hummed and printed out the filled Form 15H with a record of all the FDs in my mother's name... No need for filling out any form !!!!!!! Mother just signed it, I was asked to get it xeroxed. Did it and submitted the form. Wait, that's not all, the staff then printed an acknowledgement, signed and stamped and gave it to us. The whole thing took about 15-20 minutes with most of it spent in getting the form xeroxed.
At CBI, I did not receive any acknowledgement, I was told that I have to fill out the form in triplicate and then receive one copy back as acknowledgement.
Received an SMS from SBI regarding the submission of form 15H within an hour of the whole process.
PS : This was my first pleasant experience at SBI, maybe because it was at a rural branch. But great experience. Keep it up SBI.
