Help in selecting mutual funds

Re: i want to invest heavly , please suggest me ???

Fund of funds has a higher cost as the expense is paid on the FOF and the fund it holds. Correct me if i am wrong but all FOF invest in there own fund house. So that loses the potential of maximizing returns.

FOF funds normally invests heavily in a particular MF and hence their entry expense is normally nil. but the major disadvantage with FOF are that for taxation purpose they are equated with debt funds, hence u pay up to 30% short term capital gains and also liable to pay long term capital gains tax which is nil in case of Equity oriented fund.

Dear all,

A Big Hello.. this is first time I'm writing here... I'm lost.. need some guidance.
I'm a NRI in Japan, and will sooner or later return to India for good. I want to invest as much as I can in another 3-4 years in Mutual funds, I have been doing research for 5-6 months now.. but completely lost in number of mutual funds and no of schemes.

I can tolerate very high risk.. for 2-3 years.. so I want to invest in most aggressive, and most rewarding Mutual funds (Not stocks because I cannot do trading every day..based on volatality.) right now.. then move to more conservative down the line.. and very very conservative in 10-15 years.. I'm 37 years old now. and planning to retire for good in max 10 years.. there are lot of things in life which I want to do... but never got to do..

What I want for you financial gurus(I know the basic concept of Mutual funds.. but not qualified to identify good bad MF).. is if you could help me to identify some 10 mutual funds.. where I should invest. I would be really very happy if you could really help me identify some jems out of the pool..

Or any other suggestion if you think deem necessary.

Oh yaa.. one more thing... I'm in Japan for quite some time,so if you want any information on Japan I will be sure to help you guy's out as a friendly gesture.

Regards
Deeps

Well, i think i am also kind of new to Mutual Funds. Very recently i have invested in DSP T.I.G.E.R Fund which is doing very good right now in the market, apart from this i can suggest you to go for good infrastructure funds like TATA, UTI or ICICI Infra fund. this is just what i have for you.

May be others can guide you, Since you have asked in your post, can i have any website in Japan where we can buy Electronic goods online by paying US dollars. we all know that Japan made Electronic good are very good and in order to buy it i am looking for such good site where i can buy it online from USA, I would appreciate if you can provide some websites(any good deals sites etc) in Japan, I live in California USA.

NRI_deeps,

1. Market is a bit frothy lately and is having trouble crossing 20K on sensex. Also, US market is not in good shape and that has global impact. You should spread your investments over certain period of time using SIP. Extra Money can be placed in liquid funds earning some 6-7% interest.

2. For the choice of funds, reliance growth has been a consistent performer, so is Magnum Contra. Sundaram Capex has been in news lately and looks interesting.

Good luck multiplying your money.
