Siemens sets up global engineering center in Coimbatore

Siemens Ltd today said it has set up a global engineering center (GEC) in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu to support the firm's oil and gas customers worldwide. :thumb:

"The GEC will support Siemens' oil and gas customers worldwide and strengthen Siemens' capability to deliver high- quality, end-to-end solutions across disciplines such as structural, civil, mechanical, electrical packages, 3D modelling and telecommunications," the company said in a statement.

Siemens Ltd CEO Energy Sector, South Asia Cluster A K Dixit said GEC will provide a competitive dvantage to the firm's oil and gas solutions business.

"The GEC would act as a repository of know-how and experience. It is a natural progression of the centers for oil and gas solutions business already set up in India - at Mumbai and Vadodara - to provide engineering support for automation and electrical tasks," he added.

Iraq's Ministry of Electricity has signed a contract with Siemens worth US $160mn for the rehabilitation of the Baiji electrical station in the country's north.

"The contract includes maintenance and processing equipment for four gas units in Baiji gas station for a period of four years, subjected to extension as well as training engineering and technical staffs," the ministry's spokesman Musab al Mudares said.

Mudares said that 'the country's national electricity system has achieved a steady progress and the country's production capacity has exceeded 11000MW. :thumb:
