Professional Fund Managers are a nefarious breed. They ONLY agenda is to fulfill their personal income targets. And along the way, if anything is left, they pass it on to the investors that depend on them.

It is a well known fact that the Mutual Fund Industry as a whole has underperformed the leading indices by a large margin.

In that case how does the layman , not so savvy investor participate in the Equity markets ?
Think up till now ,mutual funds(both passive and Index funds)was the only way for a common man to participate and profit from the markets.

100% agree on this.I want attached some financial graphics for Asian Paints for the last 10 years(name of website withheld). This is a rare kind of winner which has shown consistent performance.
Asian paints has outperformed Nifty by a phenomenal amount.

Also the capital appreciation of the scrip value and dividends reflect this performance.

Asian Paints for 10 years

Good info Amit..can you give me the name of this website ?? I need such info on few more companies. You can post the link to the website here as it will be helpful to many of our members.

Mutual Funds have not performed in last 5 -6 years and it is a long period. So investors have to identify such high growth stocks and invest if they want to beat the returns from other asset classes like Gold,Real estate etc

Thanks for the info again.

Giving links to information site is not against forum rules. What is against rules is giving links to own paid sites for soliciting subscribers.

Post the link here or send me a pm

Is Buy and Hold Investing dead???

I read an article in the Times of India today 10th May 2014.
My reasoning says, is if these are really fundamentally solid companies, buy and hold in them should have profited in the long run.

So the questions which are really bothering me are as follows,

1)Is "Buy and Hold" investing really dead?
2)Does the retail investor now have to think like a swing trader?
3)How to identify weakness in the companies, book profits/losses and exit at the right time?
4)For a long term investor what should be the frequency of portfolio review and portfolio churning?

Any suggestions/advice/help from seniors appreciated.
Wel, every trader n invester at some point of d time is always in a buy n hold mode ! sounds weird , isnt it ?
wat happens wen u buy a stock n sell it after 5 minutes ? didnt u hold it fr dos 5 minutes ? every trade in d world works on dis concept where its d time wch matters under buy n hold strategy , or simply i wil put it as u CANNOT trade widout a buy n hold strategy.
so if i break down ur question to as WHICH IS D BEST TIME FRAME TO BUY N HOLD A STOCK/POSITION ? der u r n dis is d thing u shud b asking:)

Thanks for your feedback, but I was referring to the layman investor who wants to participate in the rally, for him the time frame is immaterial.

Time frame as in minutes, hours, days or weeks only matter to the trader. An investor is concerned in time frames such as Daily/Weekly/Quarterly/Yearly
