can we take it as a dominant rule that on gap-up day, no shorting?
how gap-up is defined : gap open above high of previous day? or gap open above close of previous day?

Hi vinst,
how gap-up is defined : gap open above close of previous day?

Consider a case where NIFTY has reached HIGH at 1100 and fallen by 70 points.
Next day ,say, it opened by +50 points.People say NIFTY has Gap-up opening.
Still it is shorter by 20points(70-50) when compared to Previous day HIGH.

I normally use gap-up open as gap above high of previous day.
but still, i have seen many people refer to 'gap-up open' though it is within previous day's range.
I wanted confirmation how r1989 is making his bias for the day if gap open occurs.

Hi captain of the oceans :)

Hope you do well.

Just an idea from any side beside the flow of the water.

Stdv gives a range. If you trade with such a ranges, you can terminate a range.

If the gap leaves this range, you can decide if it is a break out or just a fake. As you use for this kind of trading a specific range with stdv, you can place limit orders on the outer math ranges and just watch, when you get filled and market now jumps back. As you sold your derivative there, you must be in profit. :)

A perfect opportunity for hedging open options or futures.

Gap up means opened above the end point of yesterday
but that date it was opened above the high of yesterday

so it was break out trading

so that day please do not short here and there ..

but if it would have been opened gap up above the end of yeterday but not above the high of yesterday you can short if possible

please follow a method..

GOD bless us all

Best of luck

enjoy trading..it is the only mantra

many trades..but too many stress....keep it down..keep yourself healthy

life is more important.

BEST of LUCK
