US DATA: Initial jobless claims +4k to 371k in Jan 5 wk, following
a downward revision to the previous week (from 372k to 367k). The Labor
Dept. analyst says no states were estimated and there is nothing unusual
in the state level data. Seasonal factors expected a 11.4% jump in
unadjusted claims (+55,843). Instead, unadjusted claims rose 12.6%, or
by 61,944, to 552,043. 4-wk moving avg +6,750 to 365,750 in Jan 5. wk.
Continuing claims -127k to 3.109 mln in Dec. 29 wk, the lowest level
since the July 12, 2008 wk (3.104 mln). The 127k drop in continuing
claims is the largest drop since the wk of Jan. 1, 2011 (-193k).
