Can anyone explain me the concept of ADJUSTMENTS on closing value.

I saw at 3:30 that sensex was up 101 points but now moneycontrol shows it as 174 up.
From where did these more 74 points came??

Seeing it from last 2 years but never asked anyone , i hope i will have an answer here.
Thanks:)

Hi am asking how nifty works?& not when nifty works?
While the BSE exists for a time long before all of us were born, NSE came into existance in the nineties. BSE already had a Sensitive Index named Sensex, and NSE wanted to have a similar indicator.

Three institutions that worked for arriving at this indicator were the NSE, CNX and S&P [Standard & Poor of US] who decided to have 50 scrips to be included in a systematic manner. So the S&P CNX Nifty was born, better known as Nifty.

The fifty scrips that were originally included went on changing from time to time, and yet the Nifty continued to give a reasonably good indication of the market movements.

But like one could buy stocks, one cannot buy Nifty itself. One could buy the Nifty Index Futures, though. And the options too.

Cheers!
