Sunil, wanted to find out the reason behind such a huge premium at close for Jan series...

Spot closed at 2916.85, December Futures closed at 2916.60 and Jan Futures closed at 2947...

So, come Friday, around what price would you think the Jan futures open up??

well, u r comparing SPOT's settlement price wih Jan Fut's Last Traded Price (which is actually 2943 and not 2947)....
The settled price of Jan Fut may be around 2931... 14pts premium to Spot..
this much premium is normal on an expiry day. It may get reduced to 8-10pts when we have a gap open (up or down) on friday...

I would be grateful if anyone can post Nifty Future-Jan 09 series' 5min chart from 1-Dec-08 to 24-Dec-08.

This will be possible by someone who has the facility of generating Nifty Fut -2M intraday chart in his charting software.

Please note that Nifty Jan Fut actually started trading in November as "Nifty Fut - 3M", and in December as "Nifty Fut - 2M"
From Friday, it will appear as "Nifty Fut - 1M"

From day after to-morrow the Jan one would again be F-I hence no problem when datas are stored as F-I.

Rishi, Jan Nifty Fut settled at 2939.55, around 23 points in premium to SPOT....
gap open is sure of atleast 30-35 points - that's what i have experienced from around 10 settlement days I have seen in my life..

Thanks for your efforts, but you have posted Nifty SPOT's chart inadvertently...

One can make this out seeing the levels itself... also today's LOD of Spot = 2900.45 & that of Jan Fut = 2927.05...
hence, realised this unintentional mistake...

see if it is possible for you to post Jan Fut's 5min (or 15min) chart during the same period...

Gap open is fine...but the question is it going to be gap up or gap down??
