Prabhu, You may buy 4600 Put now or near 4730 spot and SL should be Spot above 4800 - this is a positional trade

Why 4600 put? That will increase his loss two fold if market rallies bacause put premium decreases with market rallies and time to expiry. According to me he has to buy 4700/4800 call.

Prabhu wants a position in the scenario where Left withdraws support to the Govt., so buying a Put is an easy solution!!
He needs a bearish position!!!
This would be a stand alone position and not a hedge against any short in Nifty!!!

I think he wanted a hedged position. Anyway he has now all the options available.

Dear all,
thank you all for the time and reply....since the technicals looked really weak,i went ahead and added a whole lot of 4100 puts(@16) since they were available cheap.The reason i say cheap is coz say if i had shorted 6 lots of nifty and say nifty was to have a gap up opening of 50 points on monday morning,then my loss would have been 300*50=15000 rs,instead spent half the money and made sure i dont have to curse myself if at all the markets were to crack in the near future.....
again thank you all for the time,yes i wanted to hedge ....also i got the word through my broker ,through ***** messenger yesterday afternoon.......today i got the same message from a friend of mine and then on tv there were interviewing Raja of the left front and repeatedly asking if the left would withdraw support....

Can you cite a reference? I'm curious.
