Hi Satya

I am sure everybody appreciate your efforts in developping this program. I am calling it a program as it is yet to develop into a full fledged software. But sure people would like to pay for it as it is useful however it may be in rupees and not in dollars.

However to make it fulfledged software the following are additionally required.

1. Error trap and message system
2. Help system
3. Various input parameters for different file formats and choice of delimiters for parsing the file, seggregation of data company-wise, Output of data in various formats and option to select only specified columns of bhav copy.
4.Storing of vital program information in ini file so as to avoid entering the same again and again such as
- last folder into which data was downloaded,
- last date upto which data was downloaded,
-if the program is run before the bhav copy is posted for the day thenthe default date will not download the file. Therefore default date may be indicated based on the time of the day(IST)
-data for bse has to be included to make it more worthwhile.

I am also keen to see the result of opinion poll you have floated in the forum. That will give you idea about willingness to pay.If you are developing indian equivalent of metastock etc then it is too early.

With Kind Regards and best wishes

Hello Satya,
Yes ,What u have is perfectly correct----I know--how much time and enery is required in the field of development---Even if its open source----
IF everyone contributes a bit----whatever one wishes---then a developer gets his motivation ---to work more---This is how the Open source projects sustains---

hi Joy
I agree with you in toto.

The program as such if extremely efficient.

We all give our suggestions to improve its various functionalities. Feedback and testing on other computer is required.

I am sure satya has somthing big on his mind i. e. to develop a porfolio management system. There is a thread somewhere here requesting members to indicate what they want from PMS.

When a company develops a program it has various resources available a luxory not available to freelance programmers. Forums like this one is a good platform to get user feedback and testing program on diverse systems so as to make it compatible to largest possible combinations.

We feel happy when some of the suggestions are implemented and then feel part of the development.

We will help satya as much as possible in his endeavour and also request forum members to consider his request to make monetory contribution to speed up development. A fulfledged system will still be cheaper than metastock etc.. Moreover it will be as per forum members' requirement.

Friends,

my comments were in lighter vein, eventhough who doesn't love money? As said resources and motivation is the biggest draw back of a Open Source Coding. Also, I am the lone member in this development process.

I have to juggle my time between Office, Family, kids, Trading & Coding and my partime studies.

So, I am bit a lazy these days to touch the programs. I have the ideas in my mind, but only need time, motivation to go ahead.

Why don't we form a Team of Programmers?

VB is a RAD Tool.. Development can be done really fast...

We may not come up with a MetaStock like Software, but what most Traders lack is a Money Management / Stock Management Tool.

Only thing is we need to sit and make a Blue Print and start coding....

Hi satya,

Whether by intention or in lighter vein, you have touched a basic issue.
Whether a service, even if made available free, may not necessarily be received free.
Making a donation by the user is not against the concept of freeware.
Freeware and donationware are not different, but are the same.

This does not cover software alone, but every other service rendered, here and elsewhere.

We have great people in this forum, who are relentlessly sharing their knowledge, wisdom and expertise and others are getting benefitted.
It's time we, in this forum, develop a method to express our gratitude not only in words and in other materialistic forms too.

Traderji may again be forum with a difference, to come out with a scheme to accommodate these features, wherein such transactions are channeled. This may act as a source of revenue to Traderji also.

But I wish that all these contributions of goodwill shall be voluntary and originate from the heart of the donor and not from the pocket. I mean, all sources of knowledge and service may remain free to all whether one makes a contribution or not.

Any other thoughts on this subject, in favour of or otherwise are solicited.

murthy,

your views are valid, but its not that easy to implement. May be we can have a donation forum where memebers can donate to the forum and traderji can select outstanding persons and give some gifts for their contributions.

other than that, "No takers for my Programmer's Club" ?

May be its time we form the Programmer's Club and form a Team to comeup with such softwares.
