When I am not sure about what I saying, I use syat!
So you can transalte it as ...
syat =
=may be...
=probably...
=in some ways...
=
Shaayad...
=syat ...
I will be happy to tell you further about this...see I am a Jain ... Our Lord Mahaveera used to face a basic question from intellectuals from that time...
Does God Exists? ...So telling something for this, would be like telling about existance of a sun to a blind person ... A blind man won't be satisfied until he sees the sun for himself
Gautam Buddha was also used to exist at that time ... He was 30 years younger than Lord Mahaveera ... He was also used to face the same question...Buddha was a syat digital
... he had three answers ...
1. Yes
2. No
3. ......(Silence!)
... So
depending upon the person Lord Budhha would decide which answer to be given to that man... It was Lord Buddha's way to play with minds of intellects ... It was beautiful and effective...
... So anyway ...
... Our Lord mahaveera was not a digital while answering this question...Mahaveerji used to use a trick to make a person
experience the answer rather than just understand "intellectually" ...
The trick was
saptabhanga!
Whenever a intellect come infront of him and ask ,"Does God Exists?" ... Mahaveerji would say or tell all the following answers one after another...
1. syat yes
2. syat no
3. syat yes and no!
4. syat yes and syat indescribable!
5. syat no and syat indescribable!
6. syat yes and no and syat indescribable!!
7. syat indescribable!!!
... So if you tray "mindfully" to get to some conclusion from above statements,,, it is impossible! And hence soon whoever intelligent the person may be,,, his mind would get dizzy in trying to find a meaning...It would temporarily ceased to function ... it would become absolutely still... and that was "The point" of Mahaveeji!... The experience of TRUTH ... The EXISTANCE ... Although for small amount of time but a sure GLIMPSE OF TRUTH
So I really love this word
syat ... so whenever I am not sure, I like to put
syat right there!
