Neuro Linguistic Program (NLP) and use in trading
Technical analysis is all about human emotions which reflects in price movement.
Most of the old sayings in markets like ride the trend, keep it simple etc. are easy to say but when we trade with real money in market and pressure is on at that time most of the traders make mistakes, our subconsious brain is responsible for this.
In stock market learning all technical analysis, various systems, methodologies is merely 1 years work, then sticking with what is profitable, what is comfortable is again takes few months to years and sometime eternity, then real quest starts, the inner quest with yourself and here professionals separates from the crowd, they exactly know how to manage mental balance which is must must in trading.
Never seen one successful trader who is very quick tempered, loud mouth etc..on contrary you will find them very mild, peaceful and in balance.
NLP is actually a clinical psychology subject and there r books devoted on nlp in psychiatry, so without getting in to medical terminology i will try my best to explain what is nlp in very short words...NLP as name suggests programs our brain to behave specifically under specific physical conditions simple ex. if one in grief then program the brain when in grief dont go into shell and lock into dark room instead go on walk, do exercise listen or play some music etc.Now before proceed lets look at the interesting aspect of life..when we wear something young like jinns, t-shirt we unconsciously behave like a young kid, in formal wears we act like matures. In drama schools they teach if you want to convince the audience get in to the character and feel the character and emotions automatically come appears on face ( so many times we hear actors saying at some time playing that role they actually cried ) ..in short point is externally we can change the inner graph of our brain, we can program the brain as per our needs.
Using NLP we can program our brain how to trade and what conditions u want and under what market condition what my brain by default should do...
..lil out of subject...cant help but remember the movie ghajini and the scene where amir khan wake up with empty brain then in his empty brain he start feeding data with the help of tattoos and all ( read- he programs his brain ), and after words he achieve which is unachievable ( well they suggests u can make those 8 packs as well.lol ) lets forget the exaggeration but point is programing the brain ( taking the clue from it i set my alarm tone to rocky's ' eye of the tiger ' which helps me do exercise.. lol ) coming to the NLP and trading ..to program our brain for right way of trading its also helpful to learn CBT cognitive behavior therapy which is very vast subject,
In US there r lots of institutes opened for using NLP in trading life, one reminds me of Charles Faulkner ( who is appeared in new market wizards book ), he runs such kind of institute and also author of the book NLP: The New Technology of Achievement and Success Mastery with NLP
If some one is interested i request him to google NLP & read more on it as its very big subject and very useful for trader as well.
p.s. while writing this long post one funny idea pops ... few years back i was doing some work on anti depressants ( more specific SSRI ) which i dump in halfway :D in this section there is best seller medicine prozac which fight against the depression and some claims alter the personality, now what if some good trader kept under observation under that drug and follow his/her progress ? markets driving force is greed and fear and with the help of advance medical science if one cut down the fear factor ( in a healthy way, not like some one on drugs and in aggressive fashion ) what will happen...rofl :D on this random note i better get to the bed

1/2 hr pranayam and 1/2 hr simple excercise.no tention without spending a penny.
I am doing it since last 2 moths i swear its helps me lot.

Hi!

Meditation of any type is for helping one to temperorily forget the current situation and bring one's mental state to normalcy. But the real mportance is for the state thereafter.

Like for example, yesterday the US markets were deeeeeep in red, and most of the Asian markets have followed that today. Indian markets are yet to open. But one is ready not only for a gap down opening, but also for a likely collapse thereafter.

And with this background, most of the guys shall short the futures left-right an centre :D

However..........!

If Indian markets open gap down, but defying the rest markets, they start recovering, then a high amount of short covering shall occure, taking the markets further up.

Guys who have sold heavily shall then be in need of meditation of some kind.... Panayam, may be.

But will anyone's mental state allow one to forget the loosses and concentrate on meditation?

One can find many reactions to such and similar incidences that have occured in the past. One just needs to read threads related to day trading and psitional trading. :D

And none of this is really related to Technical Analysis.
Cheers!

rofl :D cz u will never loose the edge, and yes dont forget 'save water drink whiskey'.. kidding i know u dnt drink its for me, sk n sit :)
vijay nice point, doing pranayam, yoga or doing hard session of workout/sport helpful for relaxing but in trading hours i am not sure, once my brother tried to meditate me in market hours ( who happen to be a psychiatrist ) and to make me consious and mentally active i need to count numbers in reverse manner, but it didnt really help, his conclusion was for trading one need to quickly adapt changing market conditions and adjust with it, not isolate from the noise and being yourself, frankly my reaction power reduced alarmingly at that time.I cant say much about yoga as i am not an expert but logically i dont think its helful, already ss rightly pointed out.But i am not an authority on that subject so i cant say much if u finding the good results vijay then stick with it friend and others may find it helpful.
By verious reaseach we now accept that traders can be made and they not born, so if traders can be made then they can be made with more accuracy. NLP address that thing.Biggest chalange for us is we need to have a different frame of mind in trading compare to real life.In real life more is good, in trading more is greed and a biginers trap, real life money is good in trading u need to learn hate money to earn money.. so not surprising the biggest loosers in market are smart guys in real life, those smart guys try to call the shots like they do in real life but in trading market calls the shot and u gotta better listen.
So with this default setting of our brain which been programmed since our childhood we enter in trading world and our mental frame work make mess of the most good things, we hit the losses make mistakes and whoever good enough survives and become a professional. We can speed up those learning curves with the help of advance in modern science...
few software vendors try to ride this concept of neuro-science in trading, one example is NEURO SHELL software, there r many like this.. it claims new age artificial intelligence sw which reminds the behavioral trait in ur technical analysis like settings of ema, if u use rsi 9 etc & much more.. i didnt try that sw nor i need to point only is world is accepting the importance of inner graph of our brain to succeed in trading.
