Hi friends,

I have one confusion regarding this strategy. Many a times I have noticed that a scrip has given LONG signal on daily closing basis but the weekly basis has SELL signal. For eg as per today's closing, DLF, ICICIBANK, IDBI and TATAMOTORS have given a BUY signal but for all of these, 3EMA is below 15 EMA on weekly basis. What should be done in such cases, whether one should go long or ignore these?

SH, I hope you clarify this point.

Thanks

Dear sanjeev,
If you look any trend method you see this type of doubt when you look higher time frame....if you trade looking all timeframes then you (Daily/weekly/monthly)..then your trades only at higher levels :D..if you very long term positional its better to look weekly chart...so stick with system which timeframe you trade...also do it after backtest so you can get confidence in the method.....

As far as SH's 315 strategy is concerned, we need to use DAILY chart without concering about the higher time frames. Hope SH will endorse my view.

If I remember correctly, SH had mentioned in one of his posts that he looks at weekly charts too occassionaly to see the trend, thats why the doubt.

I hope SH clarifies this soon.

Dear Sanjeev - a very interesting question posted and a tricky one to answer....but I will try!

Weekly 315 is obviously longer term trend as compared to daily 315. It is no mystery that a lot of successful traders advocate that we trade on smaller timeframe yet trade only in the direction of longer term trend. Exactly what your thoughts are i.e if weekly 315 is bearish, then should we just take all sell signals on daily and avoid buy signals on daily to avoid whipsaws.

Doing this will have its own advantages ....reduced number of trades, reduced number of potential whipsaws and probably higher profits per trade.

The disadvantages of above are - will miss out reversals from tops or bottoms, miss out the profits generated by counter trend moves which sometimes last for 1-2 months, miss out on breakout trades at lower TFs.

I think it depends on what style suits you best, if you are happy with fewer trades and fewer profits overall (though profit per trade might be higher) you can trade keeping weekly 315 in perspective. However if you are ready to take some extra trades, take some losses but overall make more profits in the end of the year, you should just trade on EOD signals.

Cheers
SH
