Hi Mr Sonusanat,
I am also holding Aban , it is a 'LAMBI RACE KA GHODA' You may buy at current level also, you will definately get in thousants in medium or long term. I always accumulate this stock whenever it is down by 200-300 bugs.
Ofcource it is my view ,your view may be different bro.PL take the position according to your views.

My enquiry was primarily, as I was already out of IDFC and am open to take position on both as per your advise

More particularly, my understanding was that in case of pair trade you gain on movements in both the paired stocks or is it primarily a trade with hedge

If its not for hedge then in such case is it possible to take only one position?

As Single Entities Both Are Still On B.HOLD List Of Stock Futures

IDBI Had Triggered BUY On 02/09/2009 @ 101.50 & IDFC Had Triggered BUY On 17/08/2009 @ 131.40

Therefore If You Were Following The Trigers, You Would Still Be Long In Either Or Both.

Now Coming To Pair Trade

There Are Various Reasons For Pair Trade

a) If The Market Is Highly Volatile & Choppy
b) If The Sector Has The Tailwind, It Is Much Safer To Short Something In The Sector Which Has Had A Huge Move On A Single Day & Go Long On Something That Has Remained Quiet & Rangebound.
c) Acts As Both Hedge & Nimble Trading Strategy, If We Are Undecided About Market Move The Following Day.
d) Strategy Was Outlined In The Last 30 Minutes...For Position To Be Taken On Thursday, Going Forward One Shouldn't Take Position On Monday.
e) Invariably Both Pairs End Up Giving Profits.

Anyways For This Month Watch For FEDERALBANK....Could Prove Profitable But Can Only Confirm EOD On Monday.

This Is A High Risk Very Nimble Play....& Not Suited For Everyone.

Past few days , some people asked for downloading EOD data,
Regarding it I ve make a utility software which converts NSE Bhavcopy into readable .txt file which can be uploaded into Charting software Amiborker, Fibotrader etc.
One just have to Download Bhavcopy from www.nseindia.com and the rest will be done by this utility.
One featute of it is that it can be used with OLD bhavcopies back from Year 1995 to 2000 ( demat share transition period) where stocks were traded in both physical and demat , the detail can be found in the Utility.

a) Do Not Sell Anything Yet Till I Have Seen Your Portfolio
b) Does Not Matter, Will See To It That You Exit Them At Appropriate Time & With Profit
c) Do Not Worry If You Bought Scrips Without Giving Thought To Position Sizing...It Will Get Corrected Next Time Round.
d) Keep 50-65K Aside For Options....Will See To It That Every Entry You Make Gives You Decent Enough Profit.

But i never buy > 5 at a time. On 1 oct sold old holding with nice profit. It triggered for 1 Oct & closed at 4927.85. Can i buy 2morrow again for target 5760? Wii it be wise. Plz advise.
