Let's See How Much Algebra You Remember

Let's Suppose x=1 & y=1

Therefore x=y
Now Add Both Sides By -y

So You Have

x-y=y-y

Multiply Both Sides By x
Then We Have

x-y=xy-y

When You Factor It

It Will Look Something Like This

(x-y)(x+y)=y(x-y)

Since Both Sides Have (x-y) Common Let's Cancel Each Other Off

(x+y)=y

Now Let's Replace Them By Their Supposed Numeral Value

1+1=1
2=1

Hello SG, hope you made this error purposely...
x-y=y-y

Multiply Both Sides By x
Then We Have
x-xy=xy-xy not x-y=xy-y

Am I missing something from your humor?

Dear Savantji,

I am reading you post for almost 2 months, I have started investing in shares recently, your suggestion are really great, I am thankful to you on your share comments, what to bye and at what price. also it helps when invest ment is only 20000, you also suggest how many share to purchase.:clap:

what you are doing is giving marvelous service to all.

Savant Sir ,

It Looks Something Like This

0x 100 =200*0
0*10000=1*0

but it doesn't means that
100=200
10000=1
reason

(x-y)(x+y)=y(x-y)

cancellation is not possible here
X-Y is a factor of
whole euation so

(X-Y)(X+Y-Y)=0
THAT IMPLY
(X-Y)(X)=0

AS THIS IS A 2ND ORDER EUQTION SO IT HAS TWO SOLUTION

IT COULD BE

X=Y , OR X=0

Savant Ji . . Following quote might explain my relationship with algebra

"As long as algebra is taught in school, there will be prayer in school" :D

Hi Sri,

The Whole Thing Should Have Been Like This:
x=1 & y=1

Therefore x=y
Multiply Both Sides By x
x=xy

Add Both Sides By -y

Therefore: x-y=xy-y

When You Factor It Where The First One Is Difference Of Square & Second One Y Is Common Then It Looks Like This

(x-y)(x+y)=y(x-y)

(x-y) Is Common To Both Sides Of The Equation When Simplified It Looks Like This

(x+y)=y

When Substituted With Value
It Becomes 1+1=1
2=1

I Knew Many People Have Come Across This...So They Were Quick To Answer Correctly Without Checking The Equation...That Is Why One Should Always Have A Keen Eye, Irrespective Of How Often One Has Come Across The Question....That Was My Little Twist To A Already Well Known Twister Of Algebra....I Am Glad You Found The Twist ...Congratulations...To You !!!

Multiply Both Sides By x
Then We Have

x-xy=xy-xy

and not

x-y=xy-y
