Hi Chennai,

a) Postional Because Returns Are Lot More

b) If The Market Is Not Trending Well For Positional, Chances Are It Won't Be Very Good For Intraday

c) In F&O That If I Am Not Doubling The Money On Capital Employed 20-35 Trading Sessions, I Will Stay Out Of The Market & Complete Things That Have Been Neglected & Put On The Back Bench Because Of The Market.

d) There Are Many Different Types Of Intraday Traders - 1) Ones Who First Gained & Then Lost Everything During Harshad Mehts'a Time Have Not Given Up Hope, That They Still Possess The Capacity To Pull Money From The Market. 2) Then There Are Those Who Do Not Have Enough Capital & Think They Can Make Money From Intraday & Then Become Positional Traders 3) Then There Are Those Who Having Taken VRS, Wifey Gets On His Case For Sitting At Home The Whole Time & Not Doing Anything Probably They Don't Even Watch The Same TV Channels, As A Result He Becomes A Day Trader Staying Out Of The House For A Few Hours. 4) Then There Are Also The Types Who Have No Risk Appetite At All Beyond Intraday.... 5) There Maybe Some More Different Types...:)

savant sir,
i read in one of ur posts that u r more into positional trading than intraday...just out of curiosity...with so much knowledge and experience why u dont?
Also i read somewhere tat intraday makes one rich in the short term and its the other way round for positional (given tat even warren buffet was a long term holder of stocks...purchased at rock bottom levels and held for years together! pl correct me if i am wrong sir)
1. is trading in intraday dangerous ?
2. does postional tra give more returns than intraday...or is it otherwise?
3. if i were to invest say 100000 in intraday...and were to trade 10 scrips in a day wat would be return in a year? (this i ask because i read somewhere people saying weird stories of making return like 34 lakhs with a capital of 1 lakh in 2 yrs time)

sorry for throwing so many questions at one time. please reply at your convinience

My personal take on intraday is to stay away from it as much as possible, unless I see a huge irrational jump in a position that I took based on technicals (whatever small knowledge I have of them) :), but the technicals don't support the jump :). Other than that, I usually prefer to do short term trading (anything from a week to a month).

Oh and I don't put my bread/beer money into trading, and I am quite comfortable even if the money is blocked for a year or more :)

Just went ahead and booked profits on Satyam 1000S [email protected], average selling price was 73.2.

My reason for booking profit was the MACD showing the bearish signal, BB narrowing, and the momentum fall. I am attaching the chart below.

My estimate is that in a few days time, the stock will go back into a very narrow daily range (very tight BB band), and this is gonna be an ideal time to take a position again (budget approaching) :). Lets hope this happens before the budget :)

Savantji and other seniors, whats your opinion about whether what I did was right and was my interpretation logical?

Stocks To Keep A Close Eye On (6th Dec 2006)

NEW BUY TRIGGERS

NAME

Bajaj Auto

Dr Reddy

Maruti

Tata Motors

The Above Stocks have given a buy signal....which means one can take a position either in the stock or Stock Future.....keeping a Stop Loss of 1% from the purchase price....and continue the position.....everyday adjusting the Stops....locking in the the profits...till the Signal turns....to 'Sell'

One doesn't have to actually buy the triggers above.....instead can study the stock how it behaves.....when it generates a buy signal....The Faith in following it up with actual trade shall come with time........& Trust....:)

Many Pardons....for not having posted....the explanation earlier.

Yup, Assamco is Bearish according to MACD, but what is this BB Band you are mentioning? Is this supposed to be the Bollinger Band and if yes then perhaps you forgot to add it.

Cheers!

PS: On second thoughts, also see that the MACD signal line is quite parallel and not diverging a lot, so perhaps the bearish phase is not going to be long and there can be a bullish crossover.

PPS: Still a newbie and saying based on the little knowledge I have. One reason being the desire to be corrected by seniors, if I make mistakes.

PPPS: Thanks for adding the BB (changing my post to reflect this). Oh by the way, you talk about Assamco, but the chart is from ABG Shipyard?
