Thomas DeMark Sequential System

I too have bought the book last month and love it! BUT I have been trying to understand the actual usage by hand, I've printed out chart after chart but can't compare it to anything. The methodology is clearly explained but as far as to where to actually start is a bit of a mystery.

I am using MetaStock Pro FX and will try the metastock formula that Smart Trade has provided (thank you).

I want to say thank you for this whole thread as I've been looking for over a month on Mr. DeMark's work, I keep coming across the same articles and the same interviews but no real site to actually apply. Thank you everyone for this oasis in sea of sand.

Smart Trade, I also want to ask about some of your charts as the start of the countdown should always be on the 9th bar of a setup (or delayed if it perfected, then you go to the 10th or 11th setup bar (hidden)), looking at your counts, the 9th bar of a perfect setup are all right but sometimes you offset the start of the countdown to another bar later or sometimes the previous bar (8th). Is there a reason?

Thanks for your time and again I appreciate all of everyone's efforts, I know I'll be posting more questions.

Thanks again.

No my friend, the count down NEVER starts with 8th bar. None of the charts posted by me will have this. The earliest it can start is on 9th bar if the intersection is complete on 7th,8th or 9th bar. If not,the start of count down is deferred till intersection takes place.

Let me know if I could be of further help to you...

Posting last few days Nifty futures 30 min chart.

See how nifty futures is oscillating between two TDST levels 3721=90 and 3273=50.

The recent upmove failed at the top TDST at 3721=90.Now will the downmove be arrested at 3273=50 ?

Best Wishes,Trade well !!!

Smart,
What you have written is all correct...however there is one exception for countdown.
In case of Indices, the countdown starts from the 9th bar irrespective of the completion of intersection. This may be obvious to you, but maynot be for a new starter. ( though I havent yet found an instance where intersection is not fulfilled...all this is theoretic discussion in nature).

I have been following you here for a long time now....you are as good as ever. Great effort Sir...

Thank you for clearing that up, I think it's the size of the images posted here, another question in post #175 you have an image of 'SESA GOA' (I'm sorry for my poor spelling) and on the 9th bar, looks good but you started the count on the 10th, wouldn't the 9th bar be okay?

And in post #127 is what confused me, perhaps because of the small chart size, this is the chart that I noted the 1 of the countdown was under the 8 of the setup.

One more question,

If I were to look at a chart and try to do this by hand, what is the best way to start? Find all the flips? See which flips turn into a valid setup and then countdown from there?
(this is where I struggle to truly understand on the application of TD indicators)

Smart trade, thank you for all your efforts and I'm sorry for my many questions. (it's difficult to find a 'real' person who is knowledgeable in TD's usage, someone not from a book whom you can not get in touch with. *^_^*)

Rakesh,

Intersection is an essential phase of sequential ,apart from set-up and count down. And no, intersection not happening is not a theoratical discussion ,I have come across number of cases where intersection does not take place in 7,8 or 9th bar but happens in 10 or 11th or further bar and the countdown starts from there.

Intersection ensures that brakes have been applied to a moving car and the exercise is not carried out in a run a way market and safeguard against premature entry.

Thanks for the kind words,

Hello Isamu,

1) Post No 175 ,Sesa Goa chart, the 9th bar of the set up does not qualify as 1st bar of count down as the closing price of 9th bar is less than the high of 7th bar (high 2 bars ago) by 15 paise,I have checked the prices.

2) Post 127,the 1st count down bar is slightly off the 9 th bar and looks below 8th bar but it is below 9th bar.Too many letters there so it went little off !!!

I suggest start with daily and hourly Sequential , also train your eye to identify set up phase, mark set ups and TDST levels in various time frames ( I trade 5 min but have traded 1 min TDST as well ) and practice trading these.

Best Wishes,

Smart trade, thank you for your explanations, I still have another question (please feel free to let me know to stop asking if it get's too much *^_^*)

Back to the Sesa Goa chart (I don't doubt your methods, I'm just trying to make it clear for myself) But you said that the closing price of bar 9 in the setup is less than the high of bar 7, but in a setup, aren't we checking close to close, not close to high?

If you could tell me what rule it is (setup rule or intersection, I will look it up) I'm just slightly confused at this part.

Thanks again and smooth trading!

Dear Smart_Trade,
I am currently reading demark's books. I have understand the concept of Td sequential. but how to find this setup in intraday charts. for that we have to manually count each bar. as you said u traded it in 1 min chart. plz explain how to do it.

Hello Nilaish,

My experience with TD Sequential is not very good for time frames less than 60 min charts. In lower timeframes, I have traded 3 min,1 min timeframe only on TDST which work very well. I dont trade the countdown for less than 60 min timeframe as the accuracy with which it works in daily or 60 min time frame is missing in lower timeframes.

For lower time frames, just draw TDST lines and trade on it.

I will see if I could post a chart showing how to trade lower timeframes.
