The Barnyard Duck

A flock of wild ducks were flying in formation, heading south for the winter. They formed a beautiful V in the sky, and were admired by everyone who saw them from below. One day, Wally, one of the wild ducks in the formation, spotted something on the ground that caught his eye. It was a barnyard with a flock of tame ducks who lived on the farm.

They were waddling around on the ground, quacking merrily and eating corn that was thrown on the ground for them every day. Wally liked what he saw. "It sure would be nice to have some of that corn," he thought to himself. "And all this flying is very tiring. I'd like to just waddle around for a while."

So after thinking it over a while, Wally left the formation of wild ducks, made a sharp dive to the left, and headed for the barnyard. He landed among the tame ducks, and began to waddle around and quack merrily. He also started eating corn. The formation of wild ducks continued their journey South, but Wally didn't care. "I'll rejoin them when they come back North in a few months, he said to himself.

Several months went by and sure enough, Wally looked up and spotted the flock of wild ducks in formation, heading north. They looked beautiful up there. And Wally was tired of the barnyard. It was muddy and everywhere he waddled, nothing but duck doo. "It's time to leave," said Wally.

So Wally flapped his wings furiously and tried to get airborne. But he had gained some weight from all his corn-eating, and he hadn't exercised his wings much either. He finally got off the ground, but he was flying too low and slammed into the side of the barn.

He fell to the ground with a thud and said to himself, "Oh, well, I'll just wait until they fly south in a few months. Then I'll rejoin them and become a wild duck again."

But when the flock flew overhead once more, Wally again tried to lift himself out of the barnyard. He simply didn't have the strength. Every winter and every spring, he saw his wild duck friends flying overhead, and they would call out to him.

But his attempts to leave were all in vain. Eventually Wally no longer paid any attention to the wild ducks flying overhead. He hardly even noticed them. He had, after all, become a barnyard duck.

Look what happened to Wally. He thought he would just "check-it-out" for awhile and then leave when he wanted to. But he couldn't do it. Sin and bad habits are like that. It is a trap, and it has a way of changing us into people we don't even want to become. Eventually we lose touch with who we really are . We become barnyard ducks.

Have a nice weekend to all of You:clap::clap::thumb:

Any body can Dutch cell operators for rs 19/=

From New Year, the country's 500-million mobile phone users will be allowed to retain their numbers while switching service providers,

With the telecom regulator clearing number portability, a move that could intensify an ongoing price war that has already hit the sector's profits and revenues.

Mobile users unhappy with the services of their operators just need to pay a nominal fee of Rs 19 for moving to a new service provider, telecom regulator Trai said on Friday.

Subscribers in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and category `A' circles such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh will be allowed number portability from December 31 while the rest of the country will have the facility from March next year.

Several surveys have shown that about half the country's mobile users are unhappy with the services offered by their cellular operators. Besides, the telecom industry already has an annual churn rate of 40%, indicating that a big chunk of subscribers could dump their operator to avail better tariff plans and services.

Trai said the fee for availing of number portability cannot be more than Rs 19. With new operators waiting to start operations in the already crowded Indian telecom market, the industry is expected to see competitive pricing in this segment too. Thirteen mobile phone firms are jostling for space in a market that, analysts say, can support no more than 5 operators. Four more companies are due to launch services next year.

Trai has also snubbed the demands of Syniverse Technologies and MNP Interconnection Teleco Solutions, two companies chosen to implement number portability, that they be allowed to charge customers between Rs 75 and Rs 200 every time they change their operator.

Trai's analysis revealed that customers may not opt for MNP if they would have to pay more than Rs 50, the amount needed to take a new prepaid lifetime connection. "Based on stakeholder comments and keeping in mind international practices, the Authority has estimated 10% porting rate for the first 15 months and 7%, 6% and 5% for the successive three years for the calculation of per port transaction charge," Trai said in a statement.

In a draft regulation released by Trai earlier, the regulator had said that new mobile users would be permitted to change their operators only after 90 days of signing up with a service provider. The users who wish to change their operator will have to give a written undertaking to their existing service provider for switching to a new operator. Trai has fixed a four-day window for operators to process an application

Typical Health Mistakes

All of us make little health mistakes that cause damage to our bodies in
the long run - simply because we are unaware we are doing something wrong.
Here are some of the most common mistakes made by many of us.

Crossing our legs:

Do you cross your legs at your knees when sitting?
Sitting this way cuts down circulation to your legs.
If you don"t want varicose veins to mar the beauty of your legs and
compromise your health, uncross your legs every time you realize you have
one knee on top of the other. The best way to sit is to simply place both
legs together on the floor, balancing your weight equally. If you feel
like changing position, instead of crossing your legs, simply move both
legs together to one side. As an alternative, you could also consider
crossing your legs loosely at the ankles. This is a classically elegant
way to sit, and is far better for your legs and your health than sitting
with your legs crossed at your knees.

Not changing our toothbrush:

How often do you change your toothbrush? Most of us wait until most of the
bristles have either fallen off, or are in such bad shape that we'd be
embarrassed to pull out our brush in public. However, since not many of us
need to pull out our brush in public, we carry on with our frayed one
until we lose it. Replace your toothbrush often. Damaged bristles can harm
the enamel, and don"t massage your gums well. If you find brushing your
teeth a pain like I do, but know you must do it, you might as well be
doing it right. Imagine going through the annoyance of brushing your teeth
twice a day only to find out that you're damaging your enamel every time
you clean your teeth. Also, use a brush with soft bristles unless your
dentist has advised otherwise.

Eating out often:

There are oils that are high in cholesterol, and oils that cause little
harm and are better for your heart. However, no matter how light the oil
is, it is never a good idea to eat too much of it. Avoid fried
foods.Remember that in all probability your favorite Indian food
restaurant throws a huge, chunk of butter in a tiny bowl of Dal.
No wonder the customers left licking their fingers. And no wonder they
felt so stuffed and heavy after wards. Limit outdoor eating unless you
know that you"re getting served light and healthy food.

Skipping breakfast:

Never, ever skip breakfast. Remember, when you wake up in the morning it"s
been around 10-12 hours since your last meal. Your body needs food now,
more than at any other time. Eat a heavy breakfast. You will then be busy
through the day, and the calories will get expended quickly. If you are
trying to diet, eat a light dinner. Here are some more common health
mistakes we make. Being informed and making a few changes can help make us
feel a whole lot better.

High heels:

High heels sure look great, but they're murder for your back. This however
doesn't mean you should steer clear of stilettos. Wear them, but not when
you know you will be walking around a lot. Wear them when going out for
lunch or dinner - when the only walking you will be doing is to your car,
to the table, and back. Avoid high heels when you are going somewhere on
foot. If you are constantly tempted to wear your heels, take a good look
at your flats. Is there something about them you dislike? Invest in a new
pair of beautiful flats or shoes with a low heel. Buy something you love,
that you will enjoy wearing. If possible, get a matching bag. You will
then enjoy your flats as much as you do your heels.

Sleeping on a soft bed:

You don't have to sleep on the floor be kind to your back, but do make
sure you have a firm mattress. Although a mattress on springs is soft and
lovely to sink into, it's bad for your back. If you already have an old
bed with springs, you don't need to invest in a new one - simply get a
thick wooden plank put over the springs, and place the mattress on the
plank. Similarly, if your mattress is old and lumpy, throw it out and get
a new one. Your neck and your back will thank you. The same rule applies
to sofas. If you will be spending hours on a sofa, get a firm yet
comfortable one. Sofas you completely sink into are not the best idea.

Pillows:
No matter how comfortable sleeping with ten cushions is, have pity on your
neck and resist. Sleep with one pillow, and make sure it is not too thick.
If your pillow gets lumpy, discard it and go for a new one. Get a thin
pillow if you sleep on your stomach, and something a little thicker if you
sleep on your back, to give your neck adequate support

Not exercising:
So all of us know we should exercise more, but many of us don't. This is a
health mistake we consciously make! And why is that? Simply because we
refuse to admit the damage we are causing to our bodies by not working
out. A number of people only start working out once they've experienced a
warning signal. Don't wait for a heart attack to strike before you decide
to opt for a lifestyle change. Make the change now. You don't need to
train for the marathon to be in top shape. Half an hour of brisk walking
three to four times a week will make a world of difference to your health.
You could then increase this to forty minutes, four times a week - and
you're all set. If you haven't exercised for a week, you're making a
mistake.

HAVE A HEALTHY FOOD AND LIVE LONGER

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) is examining the possibility of allowing inclusion of currency and interest rate futures in portfolio management services (PMS).

“We are looking at allowing exchange-traded derivatives to be part of PMS. However, no decision has been taken yet,” Sebi Executive Director RK Nair said

On the derivatives side, PMS are allowed to use only equity-related derivatives products such as stock futures for hedging their portfolios.

Hinting at further PMS reforms, Nair said PMS was not as tightly regulated as the mutual fund (MF) industry.

“When we compare general regulations (pertaining to MFs), there is a lot of leeway given to PMS. In terms of investor protection, PMS is not that tightly regulated,” he said at a seminar organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) on PMS here on Friday.

At present, there are 247 portfolio managers registered with Sebi, with total assets under management of about Rs 2.71 lakh crore serving 57,134 clients. Of this, Rs 2.35 lakh crore is invested in debt schemes, Rs 30,000 crore in equity, while Rs 6,000 crore is in other investment schemes, according to the latest Sebi data.

Nair said there were several intermediaries such as private equity and hedge funds which offer services similar to that of PMS. It was becoming a challenge for regulators to see if any systematic issues were involved in them, he said.

Sebi has, in recent years, taken several steps to regulate PMS by banning pooling of client assets, putting up capital adequacy ratio norms and enhancing the minimum net worth requirement for registration as a portfolio manager from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 2 crore.

“Sebi is looking at allowing newer products into the financial markets, but is a little conservative in introducing structured products. We are looking at reforming primary and the secondary markets to make them more fair and inclusive,” said Nair.

He said PMS should not partake functions of a mutual fund. He also said, “We are thinking if there is a need to increase the minimum investment amount of Rs 5 lakh for PMS.”

Of the 57,134 clients under PMS, about 48,000 are discretionary clients whereas 3,529 are non-discretionary ones as on October 2009.
