Dear JDM

Thanks for a wonderful tool. Due to my Busy schedule i only come to traderji yesterday after a long time and finding ur tool i was hooked to all the posts in this thread
There are many boarders saying about error. As i have used this tool on 2 connections i have found that even if dll are registered these errors occur if connection is not good. So People should check their NET connection if that is having good Speed or not

Now i need a clarification from you - Can we Download the data in 5 min format for only a single day instead of 5 days. Why i am asking this is suppose i have downloaded data on friday it will be having all data from monday onwards and on next monday i need to fill only Monday and not all 5 days
This can make the backfill very fast
Just think about it and if possible to implement in downloader kindly do so
Thanks
Rajeev

hi Rajeev,
thanks for your kind words.

yeah people are complaning because they are not following the instruction properly. anyway, this is a very rudimentary application and i really havent work in details on it. but then i just wanted some feedback through this app.

well its possible to trim the data, but is it really necessary. one can always change the settings (in Metastock or other charting tools) while importing the data in it.

cheers,
jdm.

Hi JDM

Thanks for quick reply.
I know we can trim in Metastock .
However i was thinking in terms of saving bandwidth. Normally if we download daily we can save 4/5 of banwidth or is it like this - Program will anyway download and while writing text file only it will trim if that is so then it is useless to work in that direction
Thanks

No rkgoyal that would defeat the purpose of backfilling. In current version
if I miss data down loading for a couple of days I can come back and down load it on even day 3. That is the beauty of this app.

current settings are ultimate.

Dear JDM

I agree with spiderman view. I hope that you have not dropped Metastock auto feed Project

hi Rajeev,
yeah i understand your concern. but we cannot do anything in yahoo server except for downloading the data as provided by yahoo. once it is in our machine the application can edit/trim as per our need. but then whats the need to trim the same when the purpose (of saving bandwith) is not met.

the five days backfill is useful if one misses to download the same for a day or two, as Spiderman and ppvsin rightly pointed out.

again, historical tick data is often a nuicence, as softwares, like metastock can hold upto 65500 numbers of record. that means 4-5 months of historical intraday data. not more than that. thats exactly why i have treated the 5 minutes data as tickdata (by keeping the "Periodicity" column to "0"). so that user can integrate the same.

cheers,
jdm.

Hi,

I came across this link today and found that the software is highly useful to download the data so easily. Thanks a lot for your efforts.

hey jdm
thanks for the great utility...
i found a minor problem thought would let u know so that u can think abt it..
after downloading say for suppose ^dji it saves as ^dji.txt
now when u open the file it shows somehting like this

<TICKER>,<PER>[/COLOR],<DATE>,<TIME>,<OPEN>,<HIGH>,<LOW>,<CLOSE>,<VOLUME>
^DJI,0,20070723,093000,13860.5098,13873.6797,13860.5098,13872.3799,3322810
^DJI,0,20070723,093100,13890.0195,13910.4199,13890.0195,13910.4199,3389308
^DJI,0,20070723,093200,13912.2100,13924.8096,13912.2100,13921.2305,1908294

now the problem is <per> column where u put 0 instead of 1

when u use downloader to convert it into metastock it thinks it to be an intraday i.e. tick data but instead it is 1min data so only close values are imported..
it would be great if u can look into the matter...
