To make sure i understand this correctly, i checked the margin document...n if i am to buy LIC 1 lot = 1000 shares, i need to have min 10,755 for intraday and 23160 to carry till Oct expiry for rate : 215.10?
Hi All,
Recently opened an account with Zerodha. This is the first time I'm trading and decided on Zerodha after reading the reviews here on Traderji. Took me a few days to understand the software ( I use the now.exe ). I'm no good with software and so the delay. Anyway I am really happy with the services provided so far and have managed to make money. The low brokerage opens a lot of possibilities that have already been discussed here elsewhere. I'm still learning from the forum and someday hopefully when and if I'm able to apply some principles and make some good returns I shall have a post for it. Till then I hope all the members here learn and earn.
Cheers All,
Qureshi.

You'll need 23160 to carry the position into the NEXT DAY.
Let's say you've bought 3 lots at 32265 (10755 x 3) TODAY, now, if you wish to hold & carry all 3 lots into TOMORROW then you'll've to have a margin of 69480 (23160 x 3). if you don't square them off yourself TODAY itself then Zerodha's system will square off 2 of them & carry 1 into the next day because you'll only have enough margin for carrying 1 lot into TOMORROW. (although it'd be advisable that you be a responsible trader & square off your untenable positions yourself before the trading-session ends, rather than depending on Zerodha's system-squareoff
Hi Team,
I want some detail on how to trade Dowjones and S&P 500 futures in Zerodha
I see Dowjone and S&P in Future list.
But how do we trade on them .During US market hours in Now-online it was showing as closed.
Dow & SP500 future contracts are now available for trade on NSE. You can buy and sell during NSE timings only and have to pay the price being traded at the moment. (9:15 am TO 3:30pm)
I believe most of the times you will be seeing gap ups and gap down in them in the morning when they open up for trading here.
Had MCX launched these contracts it would have been far more beneficial for the traders. (10 am TO 11:30 pm)
Be aware that it takes 7 days after you get a DND Partial confirmation sms from your mobile service provider (acknowledgement of your request is within 24 hrs usually) for the brokers trade confirmation sms to be active.

I too have a question for Zerodha/Senior members.
How much margin money will deduct/block from my account if i SELL 1 lot of 4800PE Oct 2011. Lets say its current value is 80. Shall it be 80*50 or some other calculation is there?
Meher, when you buy an option the maximum risk is to the extent of the premium... So if you buy an option at 80, the max you can loose is 80... so when buying yoiu need only 80*50 that is 4000.... When writing(selling without holding) the risk you carry is unlimited and hence exchange blocks a margin that has to be maintained in the account at every point of time...
This margin amount usually is around the futures margin for in the money options and as and when it goes out of the money, it keeps reducing...
a premium of 80, margin required to write will be around 20-23k for overnight and 40% of this for intraday positions...
