Question on futures margin: Old topic but need an answer:

Futures Margin: Take Reliance for example: Lets say
Span Margin : 22500 : 10.7%
Exposure Margin: 10000 : 5%

Total: 32500

For intraday: Is span margin required i.e. 22500 or 50% of it i.e. 11250 ? Is this understanding correct ?

For carrying forward: Total: 32,500 is required.
while Zerodha answers your specific question, i'll share what i've been told by Zerodha CC : to use Alt+W [what if analysis] to get the margin details.

if done intraday: u get intraday margin details..
if done after mkt close: you get overnight margin details.

Probably margin requirement changes after 3pm (auto square off time) itself.

you need 40% of total margin, to trade intraday.........40% of 32500................

If an option is expiring worthless, you don't need to square off and pay a brokerage for that... A lot of brokers, get their clients to square off options that is expiring worthless, just to pocket some extra brokerage...

Cheers...
But zerodha does send an sms to square off option positions.

Now, I understand why I got an SMS telling square off any option positions to avoid STT in the afternoon from Zerodha. Though I didn't have any options buy, but, Its a nice reminder for traders, appreciate that Zerodha.

Cheers!
My mind is reading these two posts differently, am I right or am I just sleepy.
