Today I see BSC(Bear Stearns) selling for $2 a share, while in july 07, it was trading close to $150 a share. my thread on sensex at 7500 irritated many, time will humble the mighty, markets will humble the experts that's how it works. while i have decided not to post on that thread, i am sure i will have my last word in that thread.

what will the other banks be worth now ?
If strange things can happen with HFCL,then y not Bear Sterns.

You have a view, you expressed it,you have a right to do so.So do others have, to react. However it can be done in a healthy manner.

Frustrating , even commodities violently going up and down - whole world is crazy. Now metals too. Bull markets, bear markets, and now "rest markets".

Amit,

Generally what i post is generic, i do not intend to take a dig at someone. if you think i was pointing at you , and anything offends you i apologize for that. i myself take things casually and take any comments as feedback and try to correct myself, so i will take the feedback and put things in a more healthy manner in future.

I posted in a general manner,as a member.

Your posts as i see them were never pointed at anyone, least of all me.So no need to apologise.

Everyone has a view on market, based on the information they receive and they process. We need to understand the fractal nature of market and hence the views.

Have a nice weekend.

A lot of times, i am so confused. a lot of volatility, ups and downs day to day, missing out feeling, there is a good solution to such problems, take a 2 wk rest and look at the weekly chart. trend will be mostly clear.
In times of Volatility ,heard ,there is a good strategy available in Options to earn money & i am trying to Learn that.

Happy Holi.

In india a permanent employee(govt employee) can work till he attains 58 yrs of age, in US permanent employees can get pink slipped anytime , it took me some time to understand that in US "all permanent positions are temporarily permanent , and all temporary positions are permanently temporary", change is constant and when you see something changing you have to adapt or perish. 4 years back if a bank or anything writes down billions then market used to tank that day, now market moves high (thinking of course this is the last write off), these are different times and we have to adapt. i used to think that all bad news will eventually come home to roost, if not today , tomorrow. may be i am correct, at the wrong time , or wrong at the correct time confused

In 1996 i first came into tax bracket, so i was searching for "how to save on taxes", there were 2 options back then buy a LIC policy( i did buy one small premium) but that is a long term thing you will not get back the money any time soon, then the second option was National Savings Certificate, this will double your money in 6 yrs and you can get back money after that. i never heard mutual fund back then, of course chit(cheat) fund companies were there.

these days every one is buying mutual funds because mutual fund invsestments are also made tax exempt, back then they were not. i believe this tax exempt status for mutual fund investments is a recent change. so there is money supply into DII and this money supply has to make a difference in the stock market. what does a mutual fund manager lose if the fund does not perform ? it's people's money. Participatory notes are another thing so anyone can invest without even providing a name/address. stakes are very high all attempts will be made to keep the market up, IMHO.

Inflation in india at 7%, i heard because of the decrease in import duty and export ban of edible oil prices have come down from 75 to 55 per kg, i have not seen this change yet in the grocery stores but might will be happy if this is true when i purchase groceries next month. i read india imports 45% of it's edible oil.

the reason for this post is , i don't know how many people believe in 7% inflation, and have no idea how it is calculated, per annum, weekly ,monthly. i believe it is calculated weekly on annualized basis. if someone goes to the grocery store, the minimum increase from past year is 20% and most of the items have gone up 40% from last year, then how come inflation is 7%.

i believe there are 435 items on the list. measuring commodity prices and that too wholesale prices is not the best way to guage, i do not know when the list was last reviewed based on today's needs. it will be a good idea for the govt to come up with better metrics , using Consumer prices and re-adjusting the weights.

markets looks like poised to move up today, might breach 16k again today. time to review best course of action to be taken when the market is moving sideways between 15500- 16500.
