A brown-throated is called Chutto Lapittida in Italian, in Portuguese, it’s called Bom da Peida, in Chinese, it’s called a Chung-long-tah, and in Japanese, it’s a Katano Tekeda. You can know the name (or memorize) the name of a bird in all the languages of the world, but when you’re finished, you’ll know absolutely nothing whatever about the bird. There is a difference between knowing the name of something and knowing what it is - Richard Feynman, Theoretical physicist, Noble Prize Winner.
Unfortunately, our education is geared to know the name of something or memorizing it, and vomiting it out during the exams. Next year, it is all forgotten (because it was meant to be remembered for examination purpose only)
Our education system is geared to churn out graduates rather than to teach how to think and solve problems... (with a few exceptions) and that is the reason why we lag behind other countries in terms of applied knowledge....
Dear Vijkris , I completely agree with you on this point. Unfortunately if one goes around one finds that this kind of rot in education is happening in 90% of the states in India.
Recently saw a report on Aaj Tak about the schools in Gujarat , one cannot differentiate that was the report about Bihar or Gujarat , identically similar situations.
Then again they showed a report about Punjab, teachers were put to test when the result of Xth board was bad , outcome was that 90% teachers failed in the test. Pathetic situation all over India.
