PM Modi has realised this issue of sustainable FDI in India in previous month. That's why in a meeting of NITI aayog he given target to all CM's to be in top 50 countries in ease of doing business index by the next year. While currently out of 189 countries, India is at 142.So every state must have to work hard to reduce restrictions to start new businesses as well as on business encouraging business environment. In Maharashtra,to start a business in previous year we need 76 permission letters from various govt. Dept. but now its only 36 and by next year it will be at 25.Government also started to apply E tendering system to all business contracts to minimize corruption cases related to business. In 1993 Narsimha Rao also did US visit for improving our business relations with them and after two years it given fruit by improving gdp by some percent. So it will take some time for results of PM Modi's work.

Good point Rockstar. The question to ask though - is why does the best talent go to the west? It's because of creativity, freedom and recognition of ability. Were Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai, Vinod Khosla, Sabeer Bhatia etc. have chosen to stay/work in India, they would in most likelyhood be paid managers in TCS, Infy or Accenture. Entrepreneurship requires a mindset that allows it to bloom..... Rules, regulations however have been such that (inspite of opportunities) stifles growth. Though things are changing, but it will be decades before we catch up with the West.

One would think that in the current economic scenario, entrepreneurship and startup culture would be encouraged. But not so. Today's business headlines in Times of India is about 'Grofers' a PE funded startup shifting base from Gurgaon to Singapore. Flipkart, FreshDesk, are two notable names who have moved out its HQ from India.

While Make in India seems to be a good start, a change in mindset towards business will take time. And sooner, the better.

Best Talent is not going to west. Yes, some talented people move to west and those western countries, being developed nations are able to provide platform for these talented people to bring the best out of them.

And frankly 95% move to west to earn dollars and for high standard of living. Creativity, freedom and recognition of ability are really not the reasons. Simply, People move to countries where they can earn higher than in India. Why do people move to Dubai ? what Freedom and creativity do they provide in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

India was the largest economy in the world till british rule.

The global contribution to world's GDP by major economies from 1 AD to 2003 AD :-

according to Angus Maddison's estimates.
Before the 18th century, China and India were
the two largest economies by GDP output.
British economist, Angus Maddison argues
that India's share of the world income went
from "27%" in 1700 (compared to Europe's
share of 23%) to 3% in 1950. Modern economic historians have blamed the colonial
rule for the dismal state of India's economy,
investment in Indian industries was limited
since it was a colony.
