re: Day trading Nifty & Banknifty Futures

Too many posts on option traders and option trading.
Let me also post my views. Beside IV and price decay, the two enemies of option traders, it is our mindset. (Here I may add that I am no exception to this mindset)

Actually, when we trade futures and when we trade options, our mindset is totally different. While trading futures we are more active and careful and we take care for losses (as the investment is big and we have to take care for MTM payment also) and so, we satisfy in minimum profits.

While trading options, inspite of investing less as compared to futures (sometime it may be as less as 5-10% of what we have to invest in futures), we are more carefree for losses (and there is no MTM payment in case of loss), and top of it, we become greedy, we do not satisfy with small profits, even investing quite less amount, we want more profit, we want/try to strain the maximum.

IMO, options are the best instrument for trading (barring last few days of series when price decay is at the maximum, particularly in OTM options), provided we trade cautiously and control our greed.

As far as the moves in a long position of future and an ITM call option is concerned, there is hardly any difference as you see in the following charts. Both the charts are more or less similar.

Though I wrote the above post, but

A request to the fellow boarders, that please do not complain to admin or press report post button (far right top of the post), if anyone find something objectionable in my post or has a different view, as I am already facing one (Though I dont know what was wrong or objectionable in my that post)

Perhaps someone was not happy with my posts and posting of levels. And as I feel that no one is following or caring for my posts on levels, I have decided to reduce the numbers of posts or no post at all.

Thanks

re: Day trading Nifty & Banknifty Futures

That was the post yesterday. Market triggered a short trade today. For system on daily bars, a close below open ( Red candle ) is an indication that the top is likely in place.

Smart_trade
On daily bars, a close below open was there on 3rd July also, why market did not triggered short, because difference of open/close was not that big ? or any other criteria also to be considered?

Vertigo,Nirav and traderravi bhai, please keep up the topic. It is very good to see one concept from different perspectives. It helps us all to understand the core concept in a better way.

I am myself new in Options Trading, so cannot say much. But I agree with observations of Nirav bhai, as what I have noticed so far is that high IV " it is relative term - what is high IV for Nifty could be low IV for Adani Group stocks and so on" is an added risk for the option buyers. Therefor before buying the options, one must definitely look at the IV values and if possible then compare these values with their recent past values. If the IV is too high, then the trade should be taken only if you have great conviction that your trade Direction and Timing are good for such trade. If you have any doubt, then it is better to skip this trade and wait for better opportunities.

I agree with points of Vertigo bhai as well. We cannot completely generalize this situation like this "High IV = Definite Loss for Option Buyers". As there are opportunities for money making if one has the experience to chose proper strike and price levels in such situation.

traderravi bhai comments are spot on as he is speaking from his true experience of past many years. OTM options have speeds similar to Formula 1 Race Cars ! They are just too quick. If one can get it right, then there is no faster way to make money, but as ravi bhai said, most often one ends up on the loosing side only.

Please carry on discussion about practical aspects of options trading, all of you. It is a great help for the guys who are learning options. :thumb:

With my best regards.
I agree that Futures are quite good to trade instead of Options especially if someone is a Price Action Trader as it requires targeted effort for reading price only while Options bring with them lot more variables to comprehend together with price analysis.
I thought this thread was about day trading and futures.

But I find there is some interesting discussion about options .

I too am trying to dabble in options. In recent times it has become almost impossible to predict the direction of market or (nifty) IV.

For example, VIX was at it's peak before election results and it came crashing
down immediately after results.

I expected similar scenario during budget time, but VIX never reached levels
high enough before budget.

It has become tougher to play options now than before. I feel playing neutral
strategies may be a better option in near future
Dear All

I had already posted a chart of Nifty 7600 CE of Intraday in this thread earlier
On a trending day,the ITM options give excellent trades.,without us having to worry about volatility,IV,greeks, etc.
