Isnt't the face value of ICICI Bank and SBI different ? Does that make no difference to market cap ?
Hi Manoj ... Thanks for your query. To begin with: No!! Any change in Face Value of a particular scrip does not lead to change in Market Value of that particular company (as it does not produces any extra value). Also, companies do change the face value of their share only because of one major reason i.e. to SPLIT (in order to increase liquidity).
Also, a lot of people have been telling me (since years) that Banknifty fund managers always try to keep the rates of SBI & ICICI at same level (though not necessarily). This has been happening since past few years. Normally, when the difference between them gets widened, that is when one of them will try to catch the other one. For example, suppose ICICI Bank is on 300 and SBI is on 250. So, either SBI will rise sharply and reach 300 in couple of months or else ICICI Bank will be made to fall drastically and made to touch 250 (even if the quarter results are fantastic).
By observing all these small things, one can study the impact of these movements on Banknifty index and take trade accordingly. After all, BN index runs mainly on MANIPULATION only. Thanks...
