Today im driving a petrol/diesel car. So if I buy a hybrid car in the next 2-3 years, I will use it for at least 5-6 years before I buy a fully electric car. So we are looking at a 15 year time horizon before the complete switch happens. Wouldnt it be better to just build the required infrastructure and make a direct switch? Cost for industry will be less. Developing an hybrid is expensive.
Almost all car manufacturers (accept tata motors) have hybrid models in Europe. So technology is there just not available to poor Indians. Remember cars didn’t came with airbags as standard until recently in India bcos who cares

Beside its chicken and egg situation. Infrastructure gets built when there is demand, EV gets implemented when infrastructure is there. Even developed countries dont have it yet so forget about India.

Hybrids are available now and city cars should get converted to EV. For long distance travel you still need petrol

@siddhant4u what you suggested is the best way of implementing anything. But unfortunately we have people at the top doing without thinking like they did in demonetization
they thought of winning UP election...This is why it was done..don't underestimate them :p

Please remember that hybrids will also require the same infrastructure. Moreover, its also a question of huge investments from the private sector who look at returns over a time period of 20-30 years. Hybrids are more costly to produce and since the focus is on going fully electric, will the investment in hybrid manufacturing plants be justified? If you are a businessman, would you put your money twice?
I dont know much about how all these things work. But purely from an investment point of view, I dont think its worth the effort going around in circles since the ultimate emphasis is on EV. Tesla and a few other companies seem to be doing fine. Its only a matter of building infrastructure from the govt side. Why govt even private players can participate in this like how we have private petrol pumps.
as you said I wont out my money twice. But I would rather suggest usage of hybrid in the longterm instead of fully EV. because there will be a day when we struggle for power generation and at that time we will definetely think about going to hybrid. But if we are bad luck, they will again scrap the EV vehicles and ask the companies to manufacture diesel and petrol vehicles again. who knows. But I am certainly not up for that decision. :)
Saying to manufacture only EV vehicles is easy but we completely dont have infrastrucre to implement the same. Implementing EV charging stations cant happen in 1 year but government is making it mandate to introduce very sooner. Another question to think about. Do we have enough power generation factility to charge the batteries of EV. Currently many states in India and are struggling with electricity issues for the basic needs. so we need to think about how we are going to increase the power generation. do we already have the facilities implemented? if so then we wouldnt fact electricity issues. so we dont have the facility. without having anything in place, atleast without having the thought process in place, taking a bold decision like this will ruin the auto sector.
They are doing it without knowledge and unfortunately companies and the investors invested in those companies like us will suffer.

I have a friend who is a chemical engineer. When all of us are drinking RO water,Purified water, boiled water etc this guy insists on drinking tap water...he says that keeps his immunity intact....

plastic bottle water is most dangerous...study shows that the water contains plastic particles..
We can test it our self..fill bottle of plastic and glass and keep it in your car for one day..
taste it next day...will know the difference
