Well said ST. Other wise it is like working as a taxi driver f.e with out having a jerrycan in the trunk. I am sure many do work like that with not even thinking about it or not think about it as they not work in real in the market.
Fine analogy, Dan, but in India, it is illegal to carry petrol in your vehicle anywhere except the fuel tank :).. The petrol pumps are not even allowed to sell petrol / diesel in bottles/cans.

Of course it goes on illegally.

Back to the point, ST's mention of a backup connection is quite correct, of course, and a must for serious traders.

Aha, Ok. I was thinking probably that this example could wake up such a post, but was not sure about the laws in India. And yes, It even could be dangerous when the taxi driver has an accident, because a of any explosion which could happen.

Also back to the point: One of the first thing is was mentioned too when starting trading was to be sure that all electronic equipments and what ever needed electricity and internet connections has to be organized in a way that I under every circumstances can trade and give orders and that what ever data is used, is backed up with CDs and external hard disk. As I lived in that time in Asia, that did make very well sense and it even does make sense in today's trading, even in Europe.

I cannot think of someone trading on just 1 internet connection.I have 2 wireless ( Tata and Reliance ) and 1 wired connection for internet. They cost Rs 500 -700 each per month. I trade on 2 computers and in last 30 min I have 2-3 brokers terminals logged in.....so that if one connection goes off I can put through the trade on other brokers trading platform. I have 2 spare computers kept ready so if as computer fails or lan card fails...just replace the computer and not waste time in repairing it during market time.....we must have 100 % uptime.....we are on crtical application ...

Every serious trader must have a spare internet connection ( of different ISP). One can even have a spare desktop with all programmes loaded on it. I have stretched it a bit more and I even have 2 UPS units with independent batteries each capable of giving 5-6 hours back up for 2 computers. These things dont cost much these days but they give solid peace of mind while trading. All these can be purchased from 1-2 losses saved because of internet/power/computer failures.

Yes. I know. I also have a spare internet connection. But if the current goes, then only one internet connection works for me.

So assuming the current is gone for me and the other is having problems, (I have had such a situation) then I can always use my mobile phone in emergency.

Its unlikely that a 2G connection is absent even if the current goes for prolonged periods of time.

Apart from that, you can also use your mobile in difficult circumstances. Lets say you are a positional trader and due to some reason, you want to exit a trade, so even if you are traveling in a bus, you can use your mobile.

Of course, we can also trade by calling the broker but its best to trade ourselfs.

I am just sharing my personal experience.
