Good Trading/Investing need a lot of homework. It is not acting on TIPs.
And with some simple tools and with the knowledge of how to use them it will be quite rewarding.

Again one can redicule these tools and learn the hard way by losing a lot of money.

If you know some way Trading/Investing without any tools do share it here.

Hope to see something constructive and informative from you, at least once.

regards

Karthik

Hi All Senior Members,

Really Interesting Thread on different indicators for Amibroker and Metastock........I need information on the following indicators and let me know if anybody are using this indicators.

Indicators for Amibroker :
1. Price Breakouts Indicators.
2. Volume breakouts Indicators.
3. Color coded price Indicators which changes with trend.
4. Color coded macd Indicators.

Thanks

Hello Karthik,

Awesome thread. I would say excellent initiative to learn TA and to develop your own trading system. I am using Amibroker 4.80.1 professional. Copied one of the AFL formula given in the thread but sometimes it does not give buy/sell signal at correct times and sometimes it gives shipsaws also. For example- In the attached chart for HLL the uptrend started from 18th Jan at 220 price but it didnt give any buy signal neither in 5 min nor in Hourly charts.

Just wondering if we have come up with some formula with a combination of some other indicators to avoid whipsaws and to get genuine buy/sell signals which we all can actually use for trading. Any help given is appreciated. I am also attaching the AFL formula I am using from the previous threads in order to avoid ppl flipping pages again.

Thanks in advance to everyone.

Cheers

Glad to be of assistance,Kalyan.
Even in metastock, you can use the "ref" function but I guess mot prefer "prev" function because it is easier to type.
Yes, that's what made me think my guesswork of the PREV function must be wrong - 'coz if the same work can be done by REF, what is the earthly need of PREV?

However PREV may have other additional utility (apart from brevity). On the MS site i've seen code using constructs like (... PREV - PREV) At first sight it might seem the two PREVs are redundant as they would cancel out but they seemingly don't. Unfortunately there wasn't much explanation of the code so i couldn't make out what it stood for (& much too complex anyway for a rookie like myself!)

Kalyan.

That's what i had guessed but i wasn't sure. You've cleared all my doubt. Thanks a ton.

For Amibroker (again i hazard a guess!) the equivalent function would probably be REF and the 2 equivalent conditions would be

1) LinearReg(C,13) > Ref(LinearReg(C,13),-1)
2) LinearReg(C,13) - (ATR(13)*2.5) > Ref(LinearReg(C,13) - (ATR(13)*2.5),-1)

Please correct me if i am wrong as i'm an absolute rooky when it comes to TA s/w & FLs.

Kalyan.
Always a pleasure, Kalyan!
As oxus has already explained, we can use ref function in Metastock as well.

Best Regards,

Hi Abhinav

Please try the revised formula. This should work. Also enclosed a sample hourly chart.

It is next to impossible to avoid whipsaws. It is always a trade off between early entries and whipsaws. We can only minimize it. There have been many attempts in this thread itself like adding a adaptive moing average, ADX etc.

Hello Karthik,

Thanks for your quick response.
I have read one of your suggestion in another forum of 3-13-39 trading system. You have mentioned this -

Buy when the 3 MA(close) crosses up over the 13 MA(high) and when the 13 MA(close) is above the 39 MA(close). Exit and stand aside when the 3 MA(close) crosses back below the 13 MA(low).

It has confused me as it looks a bit different from the original 3-13-39 trading pattern. Could you please elaborate a bit more? Based on this I have some more queries -

1) Can this be used for Intraday trading?
2) If yes how many minutes (1, 5, 10, 15, 30 or Hourly) charts can be reliable for Intraday?
3) I have configured the above mentioned formula in Amibroker and viewing it for IVRCL in Hourly charts wherein 3MA close is crossing all 4 lines in uptrend (sorry cant attach the file due to Error on page while uploading). Can I combine the revised AFL formula with this to generate buy/sell/cover/short or there wud be a different formula for this?

4) Would it be possible for you to create a afl formula to generate automatic buy/sell/cover/short based on the above pattern. Sorry to ask for it but I dont know AFL language thats why I am asking for a favor.

Please help.

Cheers
