Rakesh,

First of all let me thank you for your patience in teaching us reg pivots. You are only next to Saint with this patience. You are still willing to clarify any confusion. Man! Some one did say patience is a great virtue. If Saint is called 'Guru' you deseve to be "Mr. Patience'.

A price bar surrounded by bars having lower highs than it..has its high termed as a pivot high...A price bar surrounded by bars having higher lows than it..has its low termed as a pivot low...(you know it..dont know why I am repeating it.)....and in an uptrend...we concentrate only on higher pivot lows and in a downtrend...we concentrate only on lower pivot highs.....

The bar under question is surrounded by bars having lower highs than it. But we are in a down trend. So we should concentrate only on lower pivot highs.....

Here we are in downtrend. This bar in question has a higher high. So it is not a Pivot. On the same token the earlier bar too fails to be considered a Pivot.

So, what should we see first? Do you mean the rule is

1 See the trend first

2 Then look at the highs/lows and satisfy the condition.

Only then you can call it a pivot. Is it the right way? Under these circumstances you cannot have a PH in downtrend.

I am getting more and more convinced that 3pm bar is a pivot by any standards.

......."I also realise that 'essence' thing is only relevant in my scheme of things...guess I am still living in my own 'fools paradise'....not having any specific answers to pointed questions. Promise..I will henceforth refrain from posting such stuff on this thread."........

Please continue posting. Donot take a defeatist attitude just because you couldnot find proper expressions to convince us. Our doubts are genuine and you have the knowledge to clear them. Take your time. I am willing to wait since I am only paper trading these days. May be I wil pick up the right solution as the days pass.

Thanks for your kind words VPS....now coming to your questions..

Did you by any chance get an idea that I am trying to say that the 3 pm bar is NOT a pivot?? Please read my earlier post again....I just said that that it doesnt stand out as a clear pivot to me. Now if I tell you its a minor pivot etc etc...you may get more confused...so let me not say it now.

Since you are just starting on this system....let me rephrase my earlier reply. Here it is....

You are right in considering 3pm bar as pivot. When you look at a trend (up or down)...that doesnt change how you should be looking at pivots....whether ph or pl. If the properties required to define a high/low as a pivot are present in a bar...it IS a pivot.

Again..the steps you have written are not required...just go by the eye to see if it is a pivot or not. Dont go for the trend...high/lows etc.

So let me sum it up so that this issue is settled once for all:
What had confused you----my terming the 1pm bar as ph but my 'refusal' to consider 3pm bar as a pivot??? Let me again re-iterate....Both of these are pivots..but I persoanlly dont go for pivots that dont stand out (thats my personal approach...I may be horrendously wrong in doing it...but nevertheless I am doing it...as it gives me more confidence).
There is nothing wrong in considering it as a Pivot...please go ahead.

A few more things which you will need once you gain enough understanding of this system to actually trade it:
(a) Backtest MANUALLY at least a years data so as to understand pivot identification better. Once you do it...you will be left with no doubts
(b) There have been a few deviations in this system (read my reply to Shravan)...so there is nothing wrong if you do something..or dont do something else. I dont have to repeat that again...i hope you get it.
(c) Real time trading will require that you have more 'confidence'...which will come only with backtesting. Be consistent,be confident. A pivot missed here...a change of tf to 30min which you miss out are Ok....this system has a great r/r and enough number of trades to make you recover fast.

Huff...hope I am clear now....Cheer up, you are right in the 3pm bar. We will discuss more as you grow 'older' in this system (not refering to your age/experience etc).

Thanks,
Rakesh

SAINT,

If you are referring to the chart under question, there is no 4135 in the chart.

Saint,

PURE PIVOTS >>> is it 4083 + 15 or 4135 + 15?
