I was thinking filter in % terms plus daily volatility, is it not so ?
Ex. for nifty of 4000 we have filter of 15, then 100 rs share filter = 0.38 + volatility compare to nifty ( beta value ) suppose its 1.5 then filter is 1.5 + 0.38 = 1.43 rs.
Alex,

Yes, it is a good idea to have a variable filter that is dependent on VOLATILITY
rather than a FIXED filter. In initial stages it is better to have a lower filter at 15
points or so ,as the day progress the same value need to changed anywhere
between 20~40.

hum... interesting , but actually i meant to say having fixed filter for day trade using avg. 6 month beta value of stock, ( which is posted in nse site )

TIME FRAME TRADING:

d)30min chart shows LL-LH,.......15min shows lower pivot highs and lows.....60min shows yet another bearish candle.........and then a swift move past the previous high on the bearish candle on the 60min chart......Reversal!

Saint
Is the 'lower' highlighted in bold above correct? Shouldnt it be higher instead of lower?

If it indeed means lower ph and pl...than, how are we reversing at the high of 60 min candle...unless its the 2 bar high method.

Kindly let me know. Also, I have a few more doubts in the reversal charts posted...but dont want to post here and interrupt the flow.

Pl tell me a better way to share those chart-doubts.

Rakesh.

rakesh, if it's about 30 min flow method, then please post the charts here - it's after EOD time... no one will be disturbed

in this way, we might learn something new....

Alex,

The gyrations in the market is so huge ,that, if a smaller STOPLOSS value is taken
then it will be triggered during fluctuations.Let us have initial stoploss based on BETA
than additional value based on VIX.

Alex,

Let us have initial stoploss based on BETA than additional value based on VIX.
But BETA is only a measure of long-term relative performance and not volatility. Another issue is that the long-term bias of BETA (due to smoothing process) can hardly play a meaningful role in short-term trading.

Can you please throw some light on the choice of this particular measure for deciding stop-loss value?

Actually, u r right:

BETA (a son) is only a measure of long-term relative's performance in front of the volatility of his wife.

Another issue is that the long-term bias of BETA towards his wife (due to smoothing process by his wife) can hardly play a meaningful role in short-term retirement period of his parents....

(sorry, but couldn't miss this)

sorry for repeating ....nascent idea is adding beta value of stock ( in % term ) in nifty's tried and tested filter ( in % term )

JUST THE FIRST PAGE OF ANY THREAD FOR EVERY VISIT

Most of us (if not all) visit this thread during live trading hours, and like to have a look the posts by co-members about current market views, upcoming levels, possible trade, etc.
So, one as to auto or manually refresh the browser to view the latest posts. Also, after about 10 posts, the next post comes in a different page. So, we can't even leave auto-refresh on for all the 5-6 hours of trading time, as after some minutes, we'll have to manually change the page too. Also, sometimes worry about what was mentioned in the previous page.

What if you get the LATEST post on TOP of the page AND the page be the FIRST page of the thread ALWAYS......
obviously, this will help & save a lot of precious trading time.... One will be able to see the LATEST post on top, and only page has to be in view; old messages will appear in "next" pages, unlike currently, where old messages are in "previous pages"...

In other words, we have to sort the messages of the thread from "New to old", instead of "Old to New", so that the FIRST page of the thread will be the latest page, AND first post of the thread is the latest post.
(totally opposite of what most of you are seeing)...

How to do such setting:

1. Go to the "user control panel" page by clicking on the "USER CP" button available on top-right of every forum page just below Traderji.com logo

2. On the left hand side of the resulting web-page, there are various options. Click on "EDIT OPTIONS" under "SETTINGS & OPTIONS"...

3. In the next page, you'll see various personalisation options. Under "THREAD DISPLAY OPTIONS", there's one "THREAD DISPLAY MODE" panel...
Default option selected is "LINEAR - OLDEST FIRST"....
Change that to "LINEAR - NEWEST FIRST"

Voila, see the result for all the threads of this forum...

More FAQ on this utility: http://www.traderji.com/faq.php?faq=vb3_board_usage#faq_vb3_thread_display

You may even change the next option available "NUMBER OF POSTS TO SHOW PER PAGE"... 10 is default, i guess...
For me, 20 is comfortable...

Saint,
A gentle reminder, If you could tell us what filters you are using for HDIL miniflow.
used 3/2 with my backtest, prabhjeet recommended 1/.5........big difference...
