TP , I strongly believe that unless a trader adds to his winning positions and lets the profits run, he is going to be a marginal trader. Most book small profits quickly and wait in loosing positions ...but we have to also pay for brokerage, taxes etc...and small profits can never generate the money which is required for taking care of loosing trades and the ledger is negative inspite of small profits....and that is how traders go broke by taking small profits....I have an real life example of a very close friend who went bankrupt exactly by taking small profits....:D Will share that story some other time....

I have a feeling that many daytraders will be profitable ( so will be position traders too ) but this could be because of my bias towards daytrading....which will prove that the popular image as daytrading as a loosing game is incorrect.....or the data may show some totally different pattern and I may be proved to be wrong, we dont know...

ST, I see two diametrically opposite things here from you. A day trader is basically in for a quickie. He takes small profits and gets out. More than adds, it is his sequential exits that make him more profitable. A day trader is essentially a marginal trader in the larger context of the money markets. He takes small profits, maybe many times a day.

No TP, these are not opposite things.......we have conditioned ourselves to think that daytrading is small profits. daytrader has to cut his losses quickly but he can run his profits till the move plays out instead of taking it quickly. He can add into his winning positions atleast on strong trend days....and few daytraders make very serious money.....I have seen daytraders making 10 % and above on their capital in a day........and close to 80-100 % in a month.....( I am still not in that league yet...but striving to be there ) ...not saying that it is easy or it can be done by everyone.....but we must be aware of the potential in a particular style of trading so that we can set our benchmarks accordingly....Many may feel these results as unachievable...even laughable...but these are the real possibilities.....

I was speaking of small profits per trade. I think it takes a lot of skill to make large profits per trade in daytrading, given the volatility. At present I am of the opinion that large profits in day trading can be made only by making a large number of small profits.. So, given a reasonable opportunity, cut your costs and get out with minimum profits.. repeat this 100 times a day and you will end up with decent returns on your capital, without carrying any load for tomorrow.

TP, everybody has his own choice of stocks, trading style and brain...., there is no certain criteriya everybody can follow.

Ok, fine. So tell me when does that one trade come in the trading session and in which scrip. I'll try to trade it.

I mean Positional trade should have greater targets.
Right. But positional is a different thing. Presently I am considering day trading.

All right, not asking about different people's criteria, tell me about the one that you follow. Which trade to take everyday to earn Rs. 1500 from one lot ??
