R K Global Issues!

Thanks ARM.

1) Can you (or some one else) recommend me a good online UPS?

The issue (for me) with RK Global's ODIN is that even after a power shut off, I am not able to log into ODIN DIET. If ODIN DIET uses a different IP address after my modem reboots, then shouldn't i be able to re-connect with a new IP address? (with my back up UPS/inverter etc.) I still don't understand why my RK Global's ODIN doesn't start (or if it starts, it freezes) when I restart my modem....I mean, shouldn't my ODIN be connected with a new IP address? Has any one experienced this problem?

Answer: Nope. Angel broking doesn't charge any extra for trades over the phone. The reason why RK Global charge is that they are offering low low rates. I guess you get what you pay for. Low Rates and crappy service? and missed trading opportunities? or good service with more brokerage? This is a business. At the end of the day, I just need to justify whatever I am paying for the services offered by various brokers.
I am also looking for a good UPS. Numeric has a good specification, V-Guard is also there. Cant say till I try something out.

As for ODIN, once it is disconnected you have to logout (no other choice), wait for a minute or two and then login again. If you try to login before that it will just say that your previous session is still active. Wont allow you to keep more than one session active. That is fair because the server needs that much time to decide that you have gone offline. By the way this is not an RK Global issue. If you use ODIN diet with somebody else the story is likely to be the same regarding the above issue.

I checked with Angel broking before I opened my account with R K Global. They dont charge for the software but brokerage is very high compared to RKG + They made it clear that you have to generate a minimum brokerage of Rs. 1500 to Rs. 2000 per month depending upon the platform that you want to use. So my calculations told me that I am better off paying for the software with RKG.

By the way though I had problems with pay in appearing in the accounts, their digital contract note is perfect in calculations. No bullshit there. The trasactions appear correctly in the accounts on the same evening. (I have traded only for three days with them)

All,

I am now trading with Angel. I was using Angel Diet today and just when I was about to place a trade over the phone, the price that the dealer quoted from his VSAT terminal was 7-8 Rupess off from what I saw in my Angel DIET terminal. My thinking is this:

I think due to the latency and lag factor involved pretty much whatever you see on a DIET terminal is delayed by a few minutes even if it is supposed to be real time. This may not be a problem for a swing trader or a long term investor but definitely not for a intra day trader. Timing is very important in this game. Do any of you guys experience the problem that I am talking about?
Thanks milkyblack. That is better than their committed time of 2 days. By the way I was online from 9:50 a.m. to around 14:30 today. Didnot encounter even a single disconnection problem.

traderwiz, what is the type of internet connection that you are using? I am using a broadband connection (BSNL 2 MBPS) and didnot see any delay in quotes. Maybe once for a 20 seconds maybe there was a delay. By the way my understanding is that ODIN Diet gets the quotes from the exchange and not from the broker's server. Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks kk,

Will trying doing that...
By master file... you mean to reinstall DIET right?

Regards
Presumably the package has 2 parts - a Master & Application part but can't be sure as i haven't actually used ODIN (just seen the online demo); just posting the troubleshooting info i've come across hoping it'll be of some help.

Here's how the instruction for AngelDiet reads:-

You can download the Masters from the Diet itself. Please click on Links =>
Mail Options => update Masters => Version 7.9. Click on the link and run it.
After installing the masters; please log off from the application and re-login to
it.

(This procedure saves you the trouble of uninstalling & reinstalling the entire package)
However, if version 9 is available, you might as well download & install the new version (after uninstalling the old one). This is probably dot Net based & will integrate more seamlessly with Windows.

Here's something more you can do (again as given in instruction) :-

Please check if any Firewall or Proxy server is installed on the system.
Incase if you need Windows Firewall, please bypass Angel Diet in the
Exception List.
Also bypass the Manager IP (as per the region) & the Interactive port i.e.
7777 & the SBS DNS Name diet.angelbolt.com & Broadcast Server
Port i.e. 80.

Regards,
Kalyan.

When I login to ODIN each time it checks and updates the masters automatically for the server. That is the small window which pops up where it downloads masters first BSE, NSE whatever and then the F&O contracts and then the limits.

Just trying to help you guys get upto speed. I am no expert on this :D

Yes you are right, if RKG makes version 9 available I think all these bugs will be sorted. Of course new ones may appear but then sotware and bugs have always had a very happy marriage. :D

Thanks. Will have to check that one. S/w is generally not 'free' :)

As for UPS - APC, Numeric or Crompton Greaves.

I have BSNL Broadband. MY speed when tested with servers in New York City is 918 KBPS. I guess this is good enough. But even with this speed, my quotes were not the same as what the dealer was quoting from his terminal.

They didn't tell me any thing. As usual, they gave me some docs and expected me to sign it without filling out any thing. I did that. They are expanding and looking for new clientle. I assume that they would rather have me than being cocky and demanding a minimum brokerage every month. I plan to trade every day any way. I am aspiring to become a world class super athlete.....excuse me oops...trader.
