Thought for the day

If you feel overwhelmed just try to relax and look for one positive thought. Every good thing begins with one positive thought. You don't need to change everything in your life instantly. All you need is one positive thought. You can hold-on to that thought, and it will remind you that there is hope. One simple, positive thought is enough to make it all worth it. All your troubles, struggles, pains and suffering is worth one good thing. Those good things come to us just when we need them the most, like an angel throwing us a life-preserver before we go under the waters of despair. One positive thought can save your life or the life of another. One positive thought is the miracle for which you have been waiting. One positive thought will shift the entire world under your feet. One positive thought is something you can accomplish. One positive thought is the victory you need today!

Karnataka: IAS officer who took on sand mafia found dead at his apartment

A young IAS officer, who earned the reputation of being an honest officer and took on the sand mafia, was found dead at his apartment in south Bangalore on Monday evening. The 2009 batch IAS officer D K Ravi, 36, was found hanging in his ninth floor flat at St John’s Wood Apartments at around 6.30 pm when his wife Kusuma entered the house, Inspector Prashant Kumar of the Madivala police station said. The police said a case of suicide is suspected.

A native of Kunigal in Tumkur, Ravi was working in Bangalore as the Additional Commissioner (Enforcement) in the Commercial Taxes Department of the Karnataka government. He had earned a reputation of a no nonsense officer during his earlier stint as the deputy commissioner of the backward Kolar district in southern Karnataka.

The IAS officer had been hailed as a hero by people in Kolar for his work in the region and was involved in several stand-offs with local politicians and even the superintendent of police for taking on the sand mafia. Following the simmering differences in Kolar, Ravi was transferred to Bangalore on October 29, 2014 by the Congress government. In his tenure in the commercial taxes department Ravi had ensured collection of taxes to the tune of over Rs 100 crore and had forced several top builders and jewellers in Bangalore to pay up dues.

Police sources said that Ravi went to his office in the National Games Village complex in Koramangala in south Bangalore on Monday morning but returned home before noon. “What he did on Monday was an aberration from his normal work day,’’ Reddi said. Home Minister K J George and MLAs from the Kolar and Chikkaballapur region visited the IAS officer’s apartment following his death to pay homage.

Born in 1979, Ravi was allotted the Karnataka cadre in 2009 and had earned a good name in all his postings. During his tenure as the deputy commissioner of Kolar district, Ravi had taken on the sand mining mafia and won the appreciation of the farming community.

When he was transferred out, allegedly because of political pressure, the entire district observed a bandh.

When people of Kolar district learnt about Ravi’s mysterious death, they staged demonstrations and blocked the busy NH4. They have also called for a “Kolar bandh” on March 17.

Just close your eyes. Breathe. Stop whatever you're doing for ten seconds and find The Silence. Visit The Quiet. Just for ten seconds. Do it six times today. One minute a day. That's all it takes. One minute, divided into six parts. Go ahead. Do it now.
