Wish you the best with this black box. Though not easy words to digest from someone who loves coding his own systems. Its not a question of ego as you have mentioned before, its just that I wonder how you have managed to place your trust on a process whose parameters you do not know. Its actually a let down for me, to see you accepting a black box. Thats all. Thogh maybe what matters at the end of the day is profits, and if its giving you that, notthing like it. I hope to God that you have tested months like August 2010 June 2010 and Jan 2010. If bar replay is as robust in those months, then maybe you are right in accepting a black box.
system coders have either analyst mindset or trader's mindset. Problem with a trader's mindset is that he is never satisfied with the end result because he is willing to sacrifice strike rate for better risk reward ratio. The big trades, we might not ride all the way and exit much before system gives an exit, but the loosers, we will ride all the way. Exits are very difficult to code as that is the only determining factor of profitability.
I know the coder of this system and he is a passionate trader like myself. He knows what he is doing and is not blindly shooting arrows in the air. His system exits is far superior than my best systems and my ego wont stop me from accepting that fact.
I have been trying to code a mechanical system that gives 300 points per month and my best system gives about 150-200 per month, irrespective of the phase of the market. If someone has designed a system that outperforms my best, then i don't mind paying for it as i can now devote time and energy on my own system and find ways to improve it.
Overcoming ones own ego is a very big milestone in any traders journey....!
