I sent my forms for opening a trading account with Zerodha, not a demat account. With the forms, I attached a xerox copy of my existing demat account with RK Global, which is an NSDL account. Actually, I need to trade in F&O segment only, so I don't need any demat account but as per discussions I sent documents related to existing demat. Lets see what happens.:)
Hi Zerodhaonline

Will existing NSDL demat account with RKG serve purpose? I just had a telephonic talk regarding my account opening with Customer Care, and got the information that my forms reached on Monday, and by tonight I will receive account activation email. Please comment.

I already have a trading and demat account with Kotak Securities. They charge 0.59% on delivery trades. Since I am a long term investor, I buy smaller lots. 20 rupees a trade is quite high for me. For example, I purchased 1 share of SunPharma today at 486. I will pay about 3 rupees as brokerage to Kotak as compared to the 20 to Zerodha. I may buy 1 share every day of different companies or ETFs. So, I don't think Zerodha is for everybody.

However, they do have a 0.1% delivery plan that I have asked them about. Lets see how viable is that.

Also, do they charge for opening a trading account? Pretty much all brokers do it for free these days. I am a classic customer with HDFC Bank and they are happy to open a trading account for free with demat free for the 1st year and @ 50% charge for the 2nd year.

I just spoke to Zerodha and they can not link any other demat account with the Zerodha trading account other than IFSL. You NEED to have or open a new demat with them. For Example, I can not link my Kotak Demat account which is also NSDL. I'd say deal breaker :(
The thing is, you can link your kotak demat and do f&o trading(intraday and positional), you can do intraday cash trading.. The issue comes when you do delivery based cash trading...

If you buy 10 shares of reliance through us, on t+2 days we will transfer it to your kotak demat account... Assume you decide to sell 10 shares after 10 days... When you sell, we will have to debit these 10 shares from your kotak demat.... We will have no right to debit shares from your kotak demat account...

Not that we don't want to do it, but it is not feasible to do it...

Cheers..

Stop loss should work, the only reason a stop loss sometime doesnt work is if the trigger price is never hit..For a stop loss to become active the trigger price you have mentioned has to be hit..

Assume market is falling and you have stop loss trigger price of 1251, assume market suddenly falls from 1254 to 1250 in one tick, in this case the trigger price never gets hit and your stop loss doesn't get executed...

dear friend
as per my understanding, in ur above mentioned example, if the sell sl is placed @ 1251 and even if the mkt does not trade @ 1251,the moment it hits 1250, ur sl will get triggered. u get a fill on ur trigger or not is a different matter..

regards

Why are you able to debit my NSDL Demat with ILFS but not my NSDL with Kotak?

We have a tie up with ILFS and all the online demat accounts with ILFS will have POA in favor of Zerodha to debit shares when you sell them... ILFS is a pure DP service provider...

We can't have a similar tie up with Kotak because of conflict of interest...

Cheers..

Hi zerodhaonline

I got my account opened with Zerodha. Got 3 emails, 2 from Zerodha and 1 from nowonline.

I downloaded NSE NOW and installed, but unable to login, using User ID and Password, as mentioned in email from nowonline. It says -

"Login failed. Reason: Api user access denied" ???

Please resolve the issue.
